Griff never much minded working Saturdays; it wasn't like he had anything better to do than read and take himself through training. But on Saturdays after events, it was rough to drag himself out with time to get his coffee and walk up to the library.

So he pulled the lazy jumper act, arriving at the circulation desk right on time.

Hey, it wasn't St John's fault he was below average in height, thanks a lot dad. "Down here, or really-" There was a puff of blue and a kid sitting on the counter. "Here! You gonna share that coffee, dad?"

Griff didn't play games with small, rude, show-off children. "Why would I share my coffee with you, jumper?"

"There are no germs with family," St John stated, like he'd heard it too many times before. "Be glad pops isn't here to remind you." Gross.

"Hold up, kid," Griff said, getting into his face a bit. "What's this family shit?" No way he would ever have a family. Not with them after him.

"Ugh, fiiiiiine," St John replied, getting his recitation ready. "Family can be defined as a group of people connected with love and affection. In our case, you and pops were in loooooove and got me from it. Happy?"

"Me and 'pops'?" Griff gulped. "I don't think I want to know."

"You should know already," St John pointed out. "Where's pops when he needs to knock some sense into you."

"Wait a second, tiny," Griff said, grabbing the sleeve of the kid's shirt to stop him from jumping away. "Two things: what's your name and who's this pops?" Griff was terrified by the second one.

His eyes rolled back just like his pops. "St John O'Conner," he said, like this was obvious. "And you call pops Karev so he gave me your last name."

"No." Griff shook his head.

This was not happening to him. It wasn't.

"Uh, yes," St John answered, reaching up to pat Griff's shoulder. "There's no denying I'm your son."

"No." Freaking jumper kid. Freaking Karev. Freaking impossible ass baby!

It was going to take a lot of staring and maybe a bit of alcohol to get Griff onto the side of not just saying no over and over again. Good thing St John really liked to read.
