Library, Tuesday.

Anemone was bored, so today she was putting up a display for 'Explore Your Career Options' Week. Resume guides, books on networking, vocational handouts... she was of the private opinion that more seniors should be worried about their after-school plans than picking a prom outfit.
vanillajello: (Calm and looking at you.)

"Yeah, I'm just full of judgment," she told him with a solemn nod. "But you know, maybe I'm not from around here? Maybe I just don't really have a handle on the local good manners yet."

Henry looked her over. "Entirely possible. Though you don't look like one of the ones from a distant planet, or thousands of years away in time, or both."

He gave her a tiny smile. "You might just blend well."
vanillajello: (Smiling sideways.)

"I don't blend at all. I stand out," Kate scoffed, before smirking a bit again. "And I'm from a totally exotic place." Beat. "And by exotic, I mean incredibly boring."

"Which particular incredibly boring place?" Henry wondered aloud.
vanillajello: (Talking.)

"Overland Park," Kate said. "In Kansas. Nothing much happens there."

Henry clucked his tongue. "The heartland. I'm from Chicago myself."

Not that he'd ever had any reason to go to Kansas, but hey, it was just a state away.
vanillajello: (Talking to T.)

"Normal Chicago or some wacky Chicago?" Beat. "Actually, I'm not sure if you could tell."

Either way, Kate had never been.

"I think it's normal," Henry said truthfully. "Not a lot of people with wacky powers, no aliens walking our street, no one turns into a wolf at the full moon." For his Chicago, he was the weird one. "Normal Kansas too, huh?"
vanillajello: (Not really.)

"Pretty much, as far as I know," Kate nodded. Her mother was the weird one, there. "I mean, there might be vampires lurking in the shadows and ghosts all over the place and whatever? But I doubt it."

"I've never seen a vampire or a ghost, so I'm going to go with that they don't exist." He'd been mistaken for a ghost a couple times, but that was what happened when you turned up in places you weren't supposed to be.

"Your guess was right, by the way. I'm the librarian. Henry."
vanillajello: (Smiling.)

"Kate," she said, actually smiling a little instead of smirking. "Student, unsurprisingly. And a library patron."

"A patron," Henry said happily. "A rare breed. Any particular kind of book I could show you, Kate?"
vanillajello: (Looking up the stairs.)

"Yeah, actually. Something about World War I?" Kate replied. She paused before adding, "Especially the British and uh, the Irish, if there's anything specific like that."

The card catalog in Henry's brain whirred a bit. "We want the D's," he said, almost to himself, and gestured Kate toward the bookshelves to the left. "I'm not sure about books on England and Ireland specifically, but there should be something. Looking into family history?"
vanillajello: (Standing.)

"Mm, kinda," Kate said, following. It wasn't really a lie, and then again it sort of really was. "Something like that."

"Mmmm," Henry said himself, not especially interested. Patrons had a right to privacy, after all. "Here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=i%3Astripbooks%2Cn%3A!1000%2Ck%3Aworld+war+i%2Cn%3A9&bbn=1000&keywords=world+war+i&ie=UTF8&qid=1270650251&rnid=1000) are our shelves. You might have to scout around a little for the ones with a lot about England or Ireland."

"Okay," Kate replied, her attention already on the books for the most part. "I have time." She shot Henry a brief smile. "Thanks."
