"Hey, everybody," Tahiri said, raising a hand in greeting; the time disparity hadn't thrown her off too badly, all things considered, and she looked in good spirits. "I hope it wasn't too quiet around here over the weekend. If it was, well, maybe the first sim option you've got today will make up for it. You've got an experimental Bell X-1 for your atmospheric craft today, which according to the research I've done is the first Earth manned aircraft to successfully break the speed of sound."

Not all that long ago, either, which still amused her. Really, Earth tech? Really?

"As for your spaceflight option . . ." Her expression turned sheepish, and she rubbed at the back of her neck. "I was trying to set up a scenario in Ben's uncle's ship --" this with some effort not to look amused until she noticed Leia didn't seem to be around -- "but for some reason it keeps giving me this flying Winnebago instead. Um . . . try not to overshoot the planet and crash-land, okay? I can definitely speak from experience when I say crash-landing is no fun. Well, maybe sometimes it is, but I'm not supposed to endorse it."

She read over the overview of both crafts' controls from her datapad (not without a significant amount of comical face-making over the flying Winnebago's schematics) and as an afterthought, added, "Oh, by the way -- if any of you are interested in seeing what an actual X-Wing snubfighter looks like, come talk to me; I've got one in the junkyard."

That pretty much broke down the last of Tahiri's ability to keep up the unconvincing facade, and she let out a tiny laugh. "One and a half days out of every five, then."

"You can get kissed once every three days," he decided magnanimously.

So generous of you, Ben. So incredibly generous!

Tahiri crossed her arms and looked at him, amused and enjoying this (because he'd better not be serious or she'd have to tickle him). "Then I'm going to make sure they're long kisses."

"I can be okay with that," Ben declared, leaning in.

Did Tahiri have every intention of wrapping her arms around him in as fierce a hug as she could manage? Well, yes.

"If I don't manage to convince you to forget all about that rule, anyway," she said mischievously . . . although the 'anyway' got cut off mid-word by, you know -- kissing.

"Oh, I'm a big rule follower," Ben said when he finally came up for air.

Tahiri gave him a smirk that was only a tiny bit calculated. "I do have to admit that is one of your more attractive qualities."

"Only one of them?" Ben replied, using his best Lando impression.

That got him an affectionate eyeroll. "Well, I'm not naming them all. Your ego is big enough."

"And I think it has to be to take the bruisings it gets from you, Ender, and Karla," Ben replied with a grin.

"We're only trying to get it down to a reasonable size," Tahiri insisted. "We do it because we care . . . and because you'll sulk forever if your head swells so much you can't fit in a cockpit any more."

"That definitely settles it," Ben declared. "No more kisses for you."

"Fine, then." Tahiri crossed her arms and looked at him smugly. "Let's see how long before you miss it."

"I'll have my ego to comfort me," Ben assured her.

Tahiri barked an amused endearment in Tusken (yes, they actually had those) and poked at his ribs. "You're impossible, Ben. You know that?"

"I've heard that from people whose opinion I trust," Ben admitted.

"That category, I assume, includes me," Tahiri replied -- lightly, but she was watching him.

"Always," Ben said, smiling.

"Good thing we love you even if you are impossible, then," Tahiri decided. "Possibly because of it."

"Perfect people are hard to love," Ben said, "so I leave flaws."

Brat.

"It gives us something to give you a hard time about," replied Tahiri, who could be just as much of a brat, "so we appreciate your effort."

"I do love to be useful," Ben replied, laughing.

Tahiri just snorted and reached out to hug him again. "Sometimes you even are. Occasionally."
