Library | Saturday

It was his day at the library and there was some weird shit going down. Deciding going outside would just make him later for his shift, Griff jumped directly there, arriving at his chair at the desk with the demonic Lemur in tow.

Lemur was displeased by this dramatic change of venues and promptly burst into wails.

What a day for a droid baby in the library.

Jack... wasn't really any good at this. He poked randomly at some of the books and newspapers in the library, flipping through and looking for anything related to monkeyponies. Or apestallions. Or lemurburros.

Summer was there, loaded up on coffee (and with extra if anyone should want some) and surrounded by research materials. Now that they had a name, it was making her search a little easier.

Not by much, though. She had a feeling she was going to be there for a while.

Kyle had his gas mask in hand when he came to the library. He didn't say anything as he walked to the window to look outside, nor did he say anything as he walked back to the front door to sit down.

He didn't seem to be interested in the books or the whiteboard, only the door and occasionally the windows.

Eventually, Jack decided to try the internet. After all, everyone else was doing it, so he might as well jump off the cliff.

After about three minutes of not knowing what he was doing, he came up with something that looked promising (http://fh-bde.livejournal.com/530.html?view=4370#t4370) and printed it out. "What the hell is an 'on-tee-dee mad science'?" he wondered aloud.

The girl who burst into the library was out of breath -- she'd run straight here from the warehouse district (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/4971601.html?thread=198851409#t198851409), as fast as she could convince her legs to go. She also had a brown smear splattered in her hair and in little drops on her face. One that reeked of, well, monkey-poo.

"Warehouse," she gasped. "Bald man. Warehouse."

Oooohkay, now was a good time to lean over and catch her breath, so she could report in in a way that was actually, you know, useful.

"A bald man named von Slipptydick?" Jack asked. "Take a few seconds and catch your breath, and then DETAILS."

Air. Air was wonderful and she was going to take big, deep breaths of it while she tried to collect her thoughts.

"Don't know his name," she said. "Short, bald, brown hair, shrill voice. Followed a monster back through the fog. It went into a warehouse." She gave the address carefully. "Filled with other monsters, some injured. He said ..."

Come on, Elena, think.

"He wanted them not to ... drop something? Or break it? I couldn't see what it was, but he said it was expensive."

Dammit. She should have stayed longer.

"Good job," Jack told her. He turned and snapped his fingers at the room. "C'mon, people! Somebody get this girl a glass of water!!!"

He grimaced at Elena. "Expensive doesn't sound good, especially if he's a mad scientist. High-tech crap is usually bad news."

"'M fine," she insisted, waving a hand quickly. "Don't think they spotted me. Should've ... I should've found out more but I didn't ... want to get caught."

A few more deep breaths and her breathing was starting to sound somewhat normal.

"Is that who this guy is? von Smacktydick?"

Jack went to pat her shoulder, but thought better of it. "Hey, don't worry, even us trained professionals don't get the recon we want. You found the bad guy's hideout -- that's pretty damn good for a day's work."

He pointed to the whiteboard. "Research info is over there, if you want to check out Dr. Creepy's cripplingly depressing failure of a personal life."

Kyle was startled when Elena busted in, but when he saw it was her (not that he knew her, but she was Rose's friend or something), he settled back into his chair to listen to the conversation.

"Hey." He was holding out his water canteen, offering it.

"Thanks," Elena said, taking it and downing a much-needed gulp. Or two. Or, okay, maybe three.

"Finding ... stuff?" she asked, nodding to the whiteboard and the rest of the research center.

Words were hard. She was trying.

Summer had spent all morning researching and it looked like she was going to be spending her afternoon much the same way. She'd flipped through a number of books and finally moved over to a computer.

And lo and behold, she came across a website (http://www.okcupid.com/profile?u=maddoctoroflove) that held value. Summer might have grinned slightly as she printed it out.

K-Mart skidded into the library, trying not to keel over from the full-on run she'd been in since the warehouse district. What? This was important! She had to tell people!

"Warehouse!"

Funny how that seemed to be the common point of gasping, wasn't it?

"Creepy, creepy little man and his equally creepy little creatures!"

Re: Afternoon

[identity profile] nofishinmypond.livejournal.com 2010-03-28 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!" Jack told her. "Deep breaths. You win second place, but there's nothing wrong with that. Corroborate for me: Where's von Snickerclish's evil lair?"

Re: Afternoon

[identity profile] likethestore.livejournal.com 2010-03-28 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Warehouse in the abandoned warehouse district," K-Mart said, trying to get her breath back under control. "And man, why do they have to have an entire district of abandoned warehouses? It just leads to stuff like this!"

Well, if you were going stereotypical, he had been the one left holding the droid baby in this scenario...

Well, for now at least. But Effy seemed to have dragged herself out of her little self-imposed exile for long enough to be here. Might be the first time he'd seen her eyeliner-less and casual, and for once not greeting him with a smirk.

"... Morning." Like she hadn't just abandoned him for four days with a screaming fake child.

Re: Griff

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-27 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is what it is, right?" However off balance she might be, Effy could still tell time.

Re: Griff

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-27 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Effy did at least realise there was a good reason for the attitude, and was quiet for a moment. "Sorry." So, there was that.

"All out of dramatic openers," she tacked on after a moment

Re: Griff

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-27 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, well..." she shrugged, only mildly uncomfortably under that look. "One of those weeks. Thought I should come check up on you." When she wasn't busy engrossed in her own issues, she could think of other people.

Re: Griff

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-27 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. Robot spawn, and the other reason for stopping by. Effy eyed it resignedly a moment. "Suppose it does."

"It been good for you?" Not touching it yet, no.

Re: Griff

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-03-27 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or cause you're fucking shaking it," Effy said, snagging it off him with one hand. Funnily enough, holding it up by one arm did not stop it from crying. Such motherly instinct, she had.
