Library [3-18]

After finishing the library chores, George had a few books on American Sign Language to check out.

Possibly he was looking up swear words. Possibly he wasn't.

He's there.

Somewhat later than her usual wont, Karla ducked her head into the library. "George?" she called. "You here?"

"'m right here," he agreed, waving from his spot at the desk. "How d'ye be, lass?"

"Busy," she said, heading over to the desk. "I'm leaving for home tonight, after rehearsal. How about you? We've both been pretty scarce, I think."

"I've been around," he said, standing up to lean on the desk. "I didn' know ye were lookin' fer me, or I'd've been around more. How long ye goin' home for?"

"Wasn't looking, exactly," Karla said, giving George a smile. "But I always like to see you."

If nothing else, George was pleasant to look at, all right?

"I'll be gone for the weekend," she added. "It'll be longer than that for me--about a week--but I should be back by Sunday night."

"I like t'see ye too," he responded immediately, reaching over the desk just in case she might wish to have her hand there so he could take it.

The time thing always broke his brain. George really, really didn't approve of it. "Hope it isn't a week here," he admitted. "Would ye - liek t'go out mayhap once ye get back? We keep talkin' about it, but we never have."

Interestingly, Karla's hand needed to be in that exact spot a few seconds later. Funny that.

"I'd love to!" she blurted almost before George finished asking. Someone had failed her coyness check. She flushed a bit at how eager she sounded, but didn't try to back track. "It sounds like fun," she added.

It was truly amazing, and George grinned, obviously happy with the agreement.

"Twas hopin' y'd say that," he said honestly, squeezing her hand a little. "I could be stoppin' by yer work mayhap? An' we could see from there? ~~Like if there needed to wait a day or two due to omfgCON~~."

"Finally, a male who can stop by 'Dite's without blushing," Karla said, grinning with approval. "Though...I don't have to wait all the way till Monday to get a kiss, do I?"

When he pings in.

Henry had an opera CD playing softly in his office (the 1980 recording of "Der Freischütz") as he went through overdue book records.

To paraphrase: There are days when it's simply not worth it to gnaw through the restraints.
