Philosophy classroom: Thursday morning, office hours

Tara sits in her office, pouring over the notes she and Angelus have made, scratching out names and rearranging them on a list. Faint noises of construction are audible at the back of the classroom.

"Oh yeah," Kawalsky agreed. "The first lesson was pretty tough. I don't think some people are gonna like figuring out they're wrong about some stuff.. and they aren't gonna like being pushed by Angelus."

"True," Tara agrees without hesitation. "But someone needs to challenge the preconceived notions, and I can only go so far without losing their trust." She shrugs. "Angelus didn't have it to begin with. And if you listen to what he says, he's logical, rational, and they come out of the discussion far better informed and with a better understanding of who they are. He's very, very good at what he does - we just need to create a safe zone for him to do it in, without breaking the students. And part of that is giving them a way to get up and walk away without leaving the class and worrying about getting in trouble for that."

"You don't have to convince me, Prof. I don't like the whole 'eating humans' thing, but I've never had a problem with Angelus. The guy's never done wrong by me, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. You don't have to worry about me getting in his face."

"Thank you, Major K!. I really appreciate that."

Tara goes back to her desk for a moment, and draws out some notes (http://www.livejournal.com/users/notsouledyet/15930.html). "Now, here's your heads up on next week's assignment. Have a read, give me your comments."

"Sure thing." He started to read through the notes, then looked up. "Oh, question I wanted to ask, just so I know. Aside from class stuff, what do you expect of me? I'm willing to throw myself into the job, but I like to know what expectations I've gotta fulfill. Paperwork, helping students outside of class, that kind of thing?"

Tara smiles, appreciating his willingness to help. "The paperwork I'll take care of, but I'll want your input when it comes to final grading. I'd like you to be open to students who want to talk outside of class, and if they're finding things too confronting, please bring them to see me. Anyone who misses a week will need to catch up, and they may want to grab you to run them through the session - Bridge Carson's signing up late, so he'll be looking for you to run through last week's questions. He said he knows you?"

"I'll also want to meet with you and Angelus once a week outside of class, to review the week's sessions and get a fresh perspective on the coming ones."

"Okay, no problem. I know Bridge. Cool guy. I found his dog and took back to him. He's a little weird, wears a lot of green, but I think he'll have fun with the class." He looked through the rest of the notes and nodded. Kawalsky was used to have to speed read briefing reports in front of a superior officer who wanted his attention ASAP. "This is gonna be one cool assignment. Any idea when the pairings will be organized?"

"Angelus should be bringing his suggestions in any minute [ooc: read, in the morning, when his mun wakes up], but I want to get your opinion on them before setting them in stone. I don't know the students very well yet, so I'm going to rely on you two for the pairings.

Oh! Do you have a preference? For yourself I mean - Master, slave, or partner?"

"Well, I figure I can get to know whoever I'm partnered up with. I wouldn't mind being a slave. I'd like to give whoever I'm paired up with a run for their money, make things interesting, test the boundaries without having to boss them around." He looked at the class roster. "How about Beka Valentine? She's an interesting gal."

Tara breathes a sigh of relief. "I was hoping you'd say that. About the slave part, I mean, not Beka. Because Angelus is playing Master, and I think it'd be good to have one of you on each side. And sure, you can take Beka. We'll sort the details out with the list when Angelus gets here."

[OOC: I haven't paired her specifically with anyone yet, but I don't know what suggestions Angelus is going to make. Keeping me in *horrible* suspense.]

"Slave'll be fun. I'm used to giving and taking orders, so I know how the deal works. This is gonna be a good assignment to see how people react when they *have* to deal with each other." He knew certain pairings were going to be chaotic. He couldn't wait to see the fallout.

"Actually, would you mind drawing up your own suggestions, before Angelus gets here? You don't have to pair up everyone, just identify anyone who should definitely take a specific role, and any pairings you think would be particularly helpful."

[ooc: Oh, you're brilliant! Yep, whole class roster.]

"Well, are we going for normally dominant people to be Masters and submissive people to be slaves, or swapping them around to see what happens?"

"The most important thing is responsibility. We don't want anyone being a Master who would abuse the position, and try to get around the rules to find a way to hurt their slave. I also want to make sure we don't give anyone more than they can deal with - I'm suggesting that Janet be a slave, because I heard rumours that there was an incident recently where she was overly domineering, and there was some fallout with that amongst her friends."

She cocks her head. "I think natural dominance or submission takes a second place to those two. We'll probably swap some and maintain others, depending on the individual."

[ooc: yeah, I think I can count the number of characters who are going to like this assignment on one hand. But freedom is an ethical issue, and it needs to be explored to be understood.]
