Quantum Physics 123: Wednesday 19 October

[The Doctor looks great, until one looks him in the eye. He has to sit down, 'cause he's tired.]

Today you're going to continue working on Monday's group assignment: taking a particular event that happened recently at Fandom High and theorising as to different possible outcomes.

Take the information that you both (or you three) came up with, and speculate as to what would have occurred were you to travel back before that event. What would you have tried to prevent or start? And what would that have changed regarding how Fandom High is today?

thank god you're not doing this for real, as I cannot cope with more twisted timelines. Hopefully this will show the danger of even the smallest historical change. I'll be here if you have questions.

[He gives the class a meaningful look over the top of his glasses, and then ruins it by yawning.]

Hank takes the paper. "Thank you, sir."

After he finishes reading it, Hank starts looking for a group to join.

John sits down and looks for his partner. Not seeing her, he turns and smiles at Hank. "Hey Hank, my partner's not here either. Wanna talk to me until my partner gets here and then you can just join our group?"

Hank hesitates, then haltingly smiles back at Crichton. It looks somehow odd on him.

"Certainly, John. I see that you were discussing the weapons ban, is that correct?"

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
John nods. "Yep, that we were. I think we'd gotten to discussing how enforcing and keeping the weapons ban strict would've affected the students and teachers. We hadn't touched on the possibility of the ban never being instituted yet."

"If you meant a total restriction of dangerous potential of any kind, which was a possibility at one point, then I predict that there would have been full-fledged rebellion within the week, if not immediately."

Hank's face goes hard, his gaze distant and his voice cold.

"I, for one, will never wear a slave collar ever again. If it becomes necessary that my choices are kill, die, or wear one, that's the order I would choose."

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
John nods slowly. "Yeah, that's what we were talking about, the total restriction. And I agreed. Totally restricting it would've most likely led to rebellion and possible concealing of weapons which could've been even more dangerous because no one would know who was carrying what."

[identity profile] bluemanoncampus.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"What it was leading to was fear, suspicion and paranoia, John. Individually, they're harmful. Together, they're killers.

"Unfortunately, I see something similar happening in the event of a total lack of weapons ban. Those that don't have natural enhancements or weapons training would have quickly become rightfully fearful for their safety and either fled or armed themselves. Untrained, gun-toting, on-edge minors."

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Very much agreed on the total lack of a weapons ban," John says. "I don't carry a weapon but I know those who do and they do it with respect and knowledge. But there are others out there that don't. Some people use weapons as power, as a way to wield that power and that could've happened in this school and this situation."

[identity profile] bluemanoncampus.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"So, are we agreed that it would have been rebellion and bloodshed with the ultra-strict enforcement and anarchy and bloodshed with the complete lack of enforcement?"

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
John nods. "Yep. And it seems that a compromise would be the only logical way to appease the masses. But, we know how the compromise of a partial ban went. Seems like weapons in general trigger automatic defenses by people."

Jessica runs into the classroom.

"Er, sorry guys."
