Quantum Physics 123: Wednesday 19 October

[The Doctor looks great, until one looks him in the eye. He has to sit down, 'cause he's tired.]

Today you're going to continue working on Monday's group assignment: taking a particular event that happened recently at Fandom High and theorising as to different possible outcomes.

Take the information that you both (or you three) came up with, and speculate as to what would have occurred were you to travel back before that event. What would you have tried to prevent or start? And what would that have changed regarding how Fandom High is today?

thank god you're not doing this for real, as I cannot cope with more twisted timelines. Hopefully this will show the danger of even the smallest historical change. I'll be here if you have questions.

[He gives the class a meaningful look over the top of his glasses, and then ruins it by yawning.]

Jack waits for Cally and Sonia to show up, although given their topic -- ie, how could Zombie Weekend have turned out differently -- it's kind of hard to figure out any other result than, "Fandom High would be Zombie High."

In the meantime, in a different section of his notebook, he's jotting down everything the Doctor said to him last class period, regarding his own personal twisted timeline. Plus his maybe-boyfriend was currently a cat -- except for the brief moments when he wasn't.

Maybe Zombie High would have been easier.

::slides in, rather cheerful and grinning::

Hey Jack.

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, Cally. You look disgustingly cheerful. *grins*

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Disgustingly? Well, I was hoping for cute, but, I'll accept whatever. ::laugh::

Been a really good couple of days, but, I guess we shouldn't talk about that, and talk about the whole "time" thingy, right?

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
To say you're cute... goes without saying. And I meant disgustingly in a *good* way.

~groans, headdesks~ You know, the last thing I want to talk about is time travel right now. My brain's not up to it. Can't we turn in a paper that says, "Everyone dies, the end"?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
::pulls out a piece of pre-corner-trimmed paper, writes "Everyone dies, the end" on it::

There, done... ::sympathetic smile:: You want to talk about what's wrong?

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
If I said my boyfriend was a cat, would you call the funny farm?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
::raises an eyebrow::

Nope. No calling any farms, humorous or not.

Is your boyfriend, like, transformed into a cat, or have you fallen in love with your kittie? Just... curious...

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Transformed. He's not even really my boyfriend... we were just supposed to go to Homecoming together... *hits forehead* I am such a moron! *That* cat! I thought they were just teasing about Julian being missing and brought in a cat as a ringer...

Anyway, one date does not a relationship make -- but it's easier than explaining that it's the really hot guy who I'd like to get to know better, you know?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can see what you mean... Have you taken him to the clinic? Or maybe tried one of the weirder more magically inclined teachers? They might now how to get him fixed.

::blinks::

But, you know, not in the spayed and neutered sense. The "back to being a person" sense.

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I haven't tried it yet. I don't know if anyone has done anything with him, other than get him a collar which looks really nice on him when it's the only thing he's wearing when he does his three-seconds-in-human-form thing.

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
::shrugs:: Can't hurt, right?

And I so am not going to picture Anders like that, nope. Not at all. Not thinking about Anders with only a collar on now.

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, couldn't hurt. Thanks, I feel better with some plan of action. C'mon, try it out. Maybe a little brass bell and all?

Okay, assignment. Um... if we'd time traveled back to before the zombie attack we could have warned someone? With all the magical-type people at this school, maybe we could have come up with a zombie-repellant so they would go away.

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... given that it actually turned out perfectly fine... I mean, sure it was gross, and people got hurt, but nobody died, right? So, would we need to change it? Wouldn't we be better off not meddling, cause inevitably meddling would make it all worse?

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Not... meddle? *is frankly puzzled*

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Cause frankly, changing the way Zombie weekend went would change things how they are now... and while I'm sorry about your whole cat boyfriend thing... things are really good for me right now, and I wouldn't want that to change. ::nods::

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's good, and I'm happy for you. But you're saying if you had a time machine and the ability to make a change... you wouldn't?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, I'd like to poke my head around, see things... but I wouldn't want to change anything. Cause I'm sure that'd end up screwing things up real weird for the universal balance thingy.

[identity profile] soniabelmont.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Sonia sees Jack and heads over. She nods at him and smiles, then takes her seat.

"Hallo...Jack, right? Sorry, Monday vas an odd day, and I'm not good vith names."

[identity profile] bluemanoncampus.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Hank quietly walks in and talks to The Doctor.

"Sir, I believe that I missed at least one class due to Locker 327. What must I do to catch up?"

[identity profile] bluemanoncampus.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hank takes the paper. "Thank you, sir."

After he finishes reading it, Hank starts looking for a group to join.

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
John sits down and looks for his partner. Not seeing her, he turns and smiles at Hank. "Hey Hank, my partner's not here either. Wanna talk to me until my partner gets here and then you can just join our group?"

[identity profile] bluemanoncampus.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hank hesitates, then haltingly smiles back at Crichton. It looks somehow odd on him.

"Certainly, John. I see that you were discussing the weapons ban, is that correct?"

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
John nods. "Yep, that we were. I think we'd gotten to discussing how enforcing and keeping the weapons ban strict would've affected the students and teachers. We hadn't touched on the possibility of the ban never being instituted yet."

[identity profile] bluemanoncampus.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"If you meant a total restriction of dangerous potential of any kind, which was a possibility at one point, then I predict that there would have been full-fledged rebellion within the week, if not immediately."

Hank's face goes hard, his gaze distant and his voice cold.

"I, for one, will never wear a slave collar ever again. If it becomes necessary that my choices are kill, die, or wear one, that's the order I would choose."

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
John nods slowly. "Yeah, that's what we were talking about, the total restriction. And I agreed. Totally restricting it would've most likely led to rebellion and possible concealing of weapons which could've been even more dangerous because no one would know who was carrying what."

[identity profile] bluemanoncampus.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
"What it was leading to was fear, suspicion and paranoia, John. Individually, they're harmful. Together, they're killers.

"Unfortunately, I see something similar happening in the event of a total lack of weapons ban. Those that don't have natural enhancements or weapons training would have quickly become rightfully fearful for their safety and either fled or armed themselves. Untrained, gun-toting, on-edge minors."

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Very much agreed on the total lack of a weapons ban," John says. "I don't carry a weapon but I know those who do and they do it with respect and knowledge. But there are others out there that don't. Some people use weapons as power, as a way to wield that power and that could've happened in this school and this situation."

[identity profile] bluemanoncampus.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"So, are we agreed that it would have been rebellion and bloodshed with the ultra-strict enforcement and anarchy and bloodshed with the complete lack of enforcement?"

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
John nods. "Yep. And it seems that a compromise would be the only logical way to appease the masses. But, we know how the compromise of a partial ban went. Seems like weapons in general trigger automatic defenses by people."

[identity profile] lady-jessica-bg.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Jessica runs into the classroom.

"Er, sorry guys."
