Anemone still had glitter in her hair from ~~handwavey~~ adventures with Warren, but it was so, so worth it.

Now she was busy writing letters. To Dominic, Warren, River, AJ, Cassandra, and even one for Bart, which she'd probably ending up putting in a bottle and tossing into the ocean. She thought he'd like that.

Henry glanced up from his reading and came to the door of his office. "Hi, can I help you?"

"Hi," Merlin replied, waving a touch awkwardly. "Were you by any chance given a sword this weekend?"

The guilty look that flashed across Henry's face was probably confirmation that he had been.

"Yeeeeeees," he said slowly. "I wasn't -- really me."

"Ohthankgod," Merlin said all in one breath, sagging a bit in relief. "Can I have it back? It belongs to a friend of mine."

Henry looked even more guilty at that, and distinctly sheepish.

Better to tell the whole truth, right?

"I ... lost it." And, before the British boy had to ask more questions: "It went into the pond in the park."

"...oh." Merlin sighed. "Bugger. Well, at least I know where it is now."

Sort of.

"... sorry," Henry winced. He massaged the bridge of his nose. "It was completely an accident."

The kind of accident you had when you waved swords around while you were drunk, yes.

"If you need to pay somebody to get it out, I'll do it." He tilted his head, curious. "How'd you know to ask me? Did they mention me having it on the radio or something?"

"I can fish it out."

Just not looking forward to it, of course.

"Actually this is the... last place I looked," Merlin admitted sheepishly. "And you look a bit like that Mark fellow."

"Sorry," Henry grimaced again. "My mom used to get that a lot. That she kind of looked Italian."

Which ... wasn't the most relevant thing in the world, but he pretty much just felt awful about losing the weapon and it was the first thing to pop into his head.

Merlin had to pause and think about modern geography. "Right! Because it's... Italy. Yes."

"Right," Henry said. "Which we aren't, at all, but ...." He shook his head, realizing this was rather far from relevance. "Sorry. It doesn't matter. Were you the guy who gave me the sword, or the guy the hairy guy stole it from?"

"...the hairy fellow, actually."

"Oh." Henry nodded like that made any sense. "Glad you got better."

"That makes two of us," Merlin replied with an earnest nod. "Sorry about the whole... king of England thing."

"If it's any small consolation, he thought you were telling him he was going to be emperor of Rome anyhow," Henry answered off-handedly.

"...well, that would make far more sense than England, to be honest."

"Rome was a lot bigger back then," Henry said helpfully. "You sure you'll be okay getting the sword out of the water? You can probably buy another one."

Merlin sighed. "No, it was a gift from Arthur's father. It has to be that one."

"Fuck." Henry sat back in his chair. "Well, anything I can do, let me know. I'm usually here."

It was true. He had no life.

"Thank you, though," Merlin replied. "I'll let you know if I have trouble finding it."
