"Welcome back," a very tanned Anakin said from the front of the classroom. "Today we talk about wrath," he said. "There's something very human about giving in to our temper," he said. "It's freeing, uncomplicated."

He paused. "At least at that moment. The repercussions are always waiting."

He waved a hand and the holoprojector flipped to life. The blue alien from two weeks ago . "Remember him? As a Padawan who wasn't prone to following the instructions of my master," his eyes met each student who had also made that choice, "I was captured aboard Krayn's ship, enslaved, and set to work in his spice refining plants on Nar Shaddaa. My master escaped, and I didn't see him for almost a month. The intervening time was not pleasant."

He looked around the classroom making eye contact with every student before continuing. "Wrath is very, very tempting. It urges you to listen to that dark little voice inside of you--to cut loose, live without consequences."

He pointed at the holo again. "There are always consequences. At the end of this story, I faced Krayn in combat, ignored the advice of my master again," which would be a theme in Anakin's stories, yes, "and stabbed Krayn through the chest with my lightsaber. I was thirteen. That decision shaped much of my training as a Jedi from then on."

Anakin stopped pacing. "What would it take for you to get to that hazy edge? And more importantly, how do you stop yourself from giving in?"

Anakin's lips quirked up further. "Me either. It's why I work at keeping a handle on my temper."

"Yeah?" Jacob raised an eyebrow. "Got any tricks beside the whole meditating thing?" He hadn't even tried that yet, didn't know where to start.

And yes, for a moment he was forgetting he was talking to a teacher.

"A quick moment to think, rather than just reacting, can save you a lot of trouble," Anakin advised. "Or as the Jedi say, 'be mindful of your feelings', which is shorthand for making sure your mind, and not your emotions, are in control at all times."

"That sounds a lot easier than it is," Jacob pointed out. "It doesn't always leave a lot of room to think."

"That's also why I bring the ideas up in class," Anakin replied, "to give you a chance to think now, rather than in the heat of a moment. This way you can remember what gets you upset, so you will be on guard when you get into a situation that could escalate."

Except for when he wanted it to escalate. No, he didn't want that. He didn't think so anyway.

"You mean there's such a thing as a useful class?" he joked. Which possibly wasn't smart, but he didn't quite want to think too much. He did grow serious after an instant and nodded slowly. "I guess I could meditate on that or something."

Anakin's eyebrow cocked up, but he didn't reply to the comment. "I have office hours on Thursdays if you need help with meditations," he said instead.

"That was a joke," he mumbled sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. "Bad one." Which was rather obvious.

"I'll um... keep that in mind. Thank you."
