Library [02/17]

Once the library was set up for the day, Sam got settled in with a stack of books stashed discreetly behind his desk. So far, he'd found a number of spells to locate someone, but none of them were ones he could actually do. He was getting annoyed and frustrated with everything, but he was working as hard as ever to hide it.

"For right now, yeah," he said. "I haven't been hungry lately. Mix between working a lot and too much Valentine's candy."

"Well, the Valentine's candy is easy enough to stop eating," Sam teased. "But working doesn't make you hungry?"

Chuck shrugged. "Not really. Too distracted, I guess."

"You should still make sure you eat," Sam said, sounding a little concerned. "Do you want some of my salad?"

"No thanks. I'm not going to starve to death," Chuck told him. "I'm just trying to get some stuff organized before spring break."

"Are you going on the school's trip?" Sam asked, happily digging into the salad.

"I think I got my fill of cheap vacation last year," Chuck said. "I'm gonna go back to New York and check up on work. Lily seems to be determined to have family time as well. Can only mean something bad if she wants us all together."

"It doesn't have to mean something bad. Maybe she misses you," Sam said. "Maybe she wants to check up on work too. She seemed really nice when I talked to her."

Chuck gave Sam an incredulous look. "It's bad news. Trust me, I can tell. At least I know if it's too unbearable I can come back here and enjoy the silence."

He took a sip of his coffee. "What about you? Are you going on the oh so luxurious school trip?"

"If it's bad news, you can totally come back and say 'I told you so' but I still think it could be something nice," Sam said.

After another bite of salad, he shook his head. "No, I'm going to New York - Peter's New York, I mean. If I'm going to find him, I think it might help to be there instead of here. I'm probably going to head out this weekend."

"That's a good idea," Chuck said with a nod. "I hope you find him."

"Thanks. I really do hope your time at home isn't terrible," Sam said.

"Thanks. I figure it can't be any worse than the last time I was home," Chuck said, successfully jinxing himself. "But I'll be sure to keep you updated if disaster strikes."

"You'd better," Sam warned. "I think I'm doing all the worrying I can handle."

"I wouldn't worry about it at all," he said. "My version of disaster is a lot less dramatic than everyone else around here. Being normal is so boring sometimes."

"Here's the thing - I'm going to worry whether you think I should or not if you get into trouble," Sam explained. "So, it would be easier if you could just avoid a disaster."

"I'll do my best," Chuck promised. "But, believe it or not, sometimes disaster strikes and I'm not behind it at all. It's rare, but it happens."
