"Today we'll be looking at love and deception," Drake said. "In movies, deception is often played for laughs. Take, for example, the movie ~~meta for~~ Never Been Kissed. Twenty-five year old wanna-be reporter Josie was a loser in high school, but sees a chance to have a do-over when she is assigned to pretend to be a high school student and write a story about the students. While she's there, she falls for her English teacher, who thinks she's just 17, and he's not too happy when he finds out the truth. And in ~~meta for~~ 10 Things I Hate About You, the lead character finds out that the guy she's falling in love with was hired by her sister's would-be suitor, because said sister was not allowed to date until her older sister did. This one's an adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew, by William Shakespeare. Willy and me, we go way back.

"Anyway," Drake went on, "both movies end with the lovers reunited, and all is forgiven. But do you think it's possible that someone can deceive another about who they are and cause them pain, yet still have a happy ending?"

Up early for great root canal. Seriously, I have no idea what shape I'm going to be in tomorrow afternoon. I better get some good drugs. But at least my boss was kind enough to tell me just to go home after it's done, hooray!

"If it's for a good cause, maybe?" Dinah was looking hopeful here. "Liiike, if you were concealing your identity to protect others, that's understandable, right?"

There were no distracting pants this week. Kate approved.

And the topic wasn't too bad for her, either, so she looked fairly relaxed as she listened and watched.

"Not really. Kinda hard to trust someone after something like that," Kate said. After a thoughtful pause, she added, shrugging, "Although I guess it depends on the kind of thing they haven't been honest about."

Warren Worthington III

Possibly in an attempt to keep his deceptions to a minimum (or maybe because there didn't seem to be much of a point in hiding them anymore anyhow), Warren had ditched the coat today, and was making do with just keeping his wings folded at his back.

Considering the subject matter today, he was maybe even weirdly bemused that today was the day he decided to hit up his classes without hiding.

"I don't think that hiding something from someone is only okay if it's for the good of that other person," Warren said, speaking up from the seat he'd staked out at the back of the room today. "Sometimes, people hide things for their own sake, too."

Case in point, the wings that were folded at his back, more or less in plain view today.

"Maybe feelings can get hurt because of a lie, but sometimes a little understanding from the person who was lied to is just as important as honesty from the person who was doing the deceiving."

Didi rested her chin on her hands, watching the clips. She wasn't a big fan of lying, but she didn't mind the films themselves.

"Not really, but it depends," Didi said thoughtfully. "I think a lot of people feel like there's a difference between not mentioning something and actually saying something that isn't true. I mean, it's all the same, but if it's not that big a thing and it comes up early in a relationship ... maybe there's a chance?"

Kennedy would not be flashing anyone, thank you very much. Playing Doodle Jump, on the other hand... well.

Oh, great.

This was just what he needed, really, a reminder of Judy and that whole mess just as he was working up the courage to maybe ask Mirax out on a real, longer-than-five-minutes date.

He slouched down in his seat, thinking that it'd be really great to spontaneously develop an invisibility mutation today.
