people suck except when they don't | thursday | period 2 | february 11

Class today was being held in the Danger Shop. Loki knew he could have easily modeled this lesson around something else but the Danger Shop was fun and this lesson proved perfect for this place.

"Welcome back," Loki said once everyone had filed in and found a spot to sit or stand. "You may notice we're in a bit of a different area today. It'll become apparent why shortly. Today, we're talking about something we've all dealt with either by experiencing it or being the one that started it. Backstabbers and betrayers. Oh yes. Straight up, if you've dealt with this, you know it fucking sucks. You're going about your life happily as can be and then someone you thought was a friend, lover, what the fuck ever, turns on you and stabs you in the back. They cheat on you, they spread rumors about you, they try to kill you, the undermine you, the list can go fucking on and on."

And, if you were like Loki, you kept going back to the person that did this because you were a whore for angst.

"Sometimes, you're a big enough person to forgive them," Loki said but his voice clearly said he didn't think this should happen. "If you're that person, then you deserve a lot of fucking accolades or another round of getting your heart stomped on. And really, unless you're some fucking super sleuth, it's going to be hard to prevent this from happening because hardly anyone sees something like this coming. Un-fucking-fortunately. So, it happens and you're just left dealing with the aftermath. The test here is how you deal with that aftermath. The easiest thing to do would be to take some fucking revenge. Beat the shit out of that person, hit them with a car, something. You're going to feel that urge, I can almost guarantee it. Sometimes, it's not the best thing to do but it's most commonly the kneejerk reaction. Other people will ignore it. They're so desperate for friends and/or approval that they will let themselves be used as a doormat."

Loki was not a doormat, shut up, Bartleby.

"Other people will mope for fucking ages, both for attention and because they don't know how to deal with the situation. They lost someone close to them and they're going to think it's their fault. So, that's where our activities come in today. I want to hear if you've ever been stabbed in the back or if you've been betrayed. No need to get into specifics but I do want to know if you went the revenge route, the ignoring it route, the whine until someone gives you a cookie route, or something else. After that, step into the Danger Shop and jigger with the controls until someone who betrayed you appears in front of you. Then, punch them in the mouth. It's a sim, no harm, no foul and it'll be a good energy release."

With that, Loki gestured to the class to get going on their activities.

Calvin still hadn't quite twigged to the fact there was something wrong, despite Hobbes's best efforts to keep him in his room and out of trouble.

So instead Hobbes just gave a long suffering sigh as Calvin chewed on his head.

Ellie did not bother taking notes since she was sort of familiar with the subject. Instead, she kind of actually was staring into space, lost in thought.

Azula crossed her arms. Yes, she was very familiar with this topic. Both as the stabbee and the stabbed.

This was down right depressing and Joan decided not to take notes.

Kurt stared down at his paper glumly and took his notes. Sure, Loki was talking about being betrayed by individual people, but Kurt had been betrayed by an entire city -- heck, almost the entire human race. It was a little bit of a sore spot.

Fiona was not thinking of her mother. Or her father. Or anyone. She was just going to focus on the lesson and hope that at some point, she got to beat the crap out of someone/something or hit someone/something with a car.

Again.

"I was betrayed by people who were supposed to care about me the most," Ellie said quietly. She was talking about her parents, of course, but she was trying to leave a lot of details out of it. "I deal with it by not really thinking about it."

"I had two friends who I trusted above everyone else but in the end they betrayed me." Azula's voice emotionless but her eyes glinted with remembered rage. "I dealt with the problem by sending them to the deepest, darkest prison in the Fire Nation never to see the light of the sun again."

"The people at the last high school I went to found out a secret about me," Kurt grumbled, "and started treating me like I wasn't even HUMAN anymore."

"My father got me sent into the Valley of the New Year to get me out of the way," she said quietly, unable to quite bring up or deal with her mother's "and set things up so that a demon lord would be able to kidnap my brother."

Beat.

"I killed the demon lord."

Jono really had no plans to betray Makita, at least. That would be in very poor form.

Especially considering she was assigned as his little sibling, and all.

Makita never betrayed people! She was about as loyal as humanly possible to her people.

Besides, if she double-crossed Jono, he wouldn't cook any more pop tarts for her.
