Drake had on extremely tight leather pants for today's class. They were so tight you could tell what religion he was, if demons had religion. When the class had settled in, he snapped his fingers to start some clips rolling.

"Today we're going to talk about the Power of Luuuuuuuuurve," Drake began. "In the movie Krull, the evil Beast with a capital B and his equally evil army invade the planet Krull. Two rival kingdoms decided to form an alliance by marrying their children in the hopes that their combined forces can defeat the Beast. Fortunately, Prince Colwyn and Princess Lyssa seem down with idea, which is good because arranged marriages can be so awkward. Anyway, during the wedding ceremony, the Beast attacks, kills lots of people, and kidnaps Lyssa.

"Of course, Colywn wasn't going to stand for that, so he gathers up the usual band of misfits and hunts down the Beast. There's fighting and people dying and Colwyn finds Lyssa. He fights the Beast but isn't having much luck. ~~Xena would totally do a better job with that Glaive.~~ Lyssa comes to the realization that the power of their Luuuuuuuuurve can destroy the Beast, and she starts to finish the interrupted marriage ceremony. So they say their vows and Colwyn destroys the Beast and they all escape the Beast's fortress and live happily ever after."

"So what do you think?" Drake finished. "Can love defeat evil? Or is that just a fantasy?"

Joan nodded. She'd always been sort of indifferent to Valentine's Day, but if she were still getting over a breakup? Ugh.

"Maybe you can find something fun to do with some of your friends?"

"A friend from back home invited me to go to Venezuela for a couple of days over the weekend. I'm thinking about it."

For one, she wasn't sure how it might get taken by He Whom She Would Not Dignify with a Name Just Yet. For another, it would put her back in her world where who knew what might pop up. And lastly, no matter what Robert said, uncle Aaron would be chaperoning.

"A chance to get away from this cold and snow?" she asked. "I'd definitely jump on that."

Yeah, and look at how well it'd done when she'd gone with Griff to Thailand.

Sigh.

"My uncle would be chaperoning."

Hmm. Joan considered that. "Is your uncle cool?"

"That depends on your definition of 'cool'."

If by 'gives me shiny weapons', then yes, uncle Aaron was cool. If you meant 'let a boy touch you below the shoulders, above the wrist, or above the ankles'? Not so much.

"Fun to hang out with? Unlikely to ruin your trip?"

Joan hadn't quite cottoned on to the fact that Fiona was talking about going away with a boy.

"He's fun to train with. And he brings me weapons," which were both important, in her book.

"And that depends on 'ruin'. He kept Not Looking at us while we were on vacation last time."

"What do you mean by not looking?" Joan asked.

"Like... Robert and I were on the beach and he was going to kiss me and Uncle Aaron was not looking. At all. But he was there.

"It was really obvoius."

"Ooh. I didn't realize your friend was a boy," Joan said. "I guess that depends on if you want Robert to kiss you."

She sighed.

"Exactly. I don't know. I don't know if it's smart, for one thing. And then there's... people here."

Like Griff.

"Not over the ex yet?" Joan guessed.

"Like your ex?" she asked.

Wince.

"Yeah. Or whatever we are."

"I'm by no means a relationship expert, but it might be good to take some time to yourself."

She nodded.

"...but you can't deny that the timing is kind of crappy for that."

Take time for yourself! ...during Valentine's Day weekend.

"You could go to a spa or something," Joan suggested, making a mental note to invite Fiona next time they had a girls night.

"I might. The hot spring was nice that one time."

"Well, good luck with whatever you decide," Joan said.

"Thanks."

And with that, she tilted her head to Drake to try and get whatever he was babbling about.
