Love & Romance, Hollywood Style [Period 4, Class 6]

Drake had on extremely tight leather pants for today's class. They were so tight you could tell what religion he was, if demons had religion. When the class had settled in, he snapped his fingers to start some clips rolling.

"Today we're going to talk about the Power of Luuuuuuuuurve," Drake began. "In the movie Krull, the evil Beast with a capital B and his equally evil army invade the planet Krull. Two rival kingdoms decided to form an alliance by marrying their children in the hopes that their combined forces can defeat the Beast. Fortunately, Prince Colwyn and Princess Lyssa seem down with idea, which is good because arranged marriages can be so awkward. Anyway, during the wedding ceremony, the Beast attacks, kills lots of people, and kidnaps Lyssa.

"Of course, Colywn wasn't going to stand for that, so he gathers up the usual band of misfits and hunts down the Beast. There's fighting and people dying and Colwyn finds Lyssa. He fights the Beast but isn't having much luck. Xena would totally do a better job with that Glaive. Lyssa comes to the realization that the power of their Luuuuuuuuurve can destroy the Beast, and she starts to finish the interrupted marriage ceremony. So they say their vows and Colwyn destroys the Beast and they all escape the Beast's fortress and live happily ever after."

"So what do you think?" Drake finished. "Can love defeat evil? Or is that just a fantasy?"

She nodded carefully.

"I'm just glad I'm 99% certain we're not related."

"There's always that one percent," Kennedy agreed, having swerved wildly around the point at 90MPH in her half-asleep state. Give her a bit; she'd loop back to it eventually. "Not really seeing you as the leather pants type, though."

"I'm really really not."

She favored elegance, which made sense for a goddess, junior though she was. Drape, fit, sleek lines. Her features made Audrey Hepburn a very good look for her.

"And that's cool too," Kennedy replied easily, yawning again. Stupid screwed-up sleep pattern, plus an unchanged training schedule, made her a weird blend of... mellowly grumpy. "Not mine, either. I gave it a shot, once. God, I hope he doesn't get the idea to make us dress like him some class, 'cause worlds of no."

"I'll threaten to cut something off," because Fiona was a sort of mopey-grumpy that made good for largely-empty threats.

She looked over at the other girl.

"You'd look nice in a well-fit leather blazer or something."

"I'll back you up on it, even." Kennedy considered the suggestion for a moment. "Blazer, huh? I've got a couple of leather jackets, but nothing like that."

The army-surplus-store style she favored annoyed her stepmother more, which was a point in their favor. "Maybe I'll work in a shopping trip tomorrow."

"Pixie Dust had one in a dark brown that might suit you. But I haven't been there for a while."

"You know, I hadn't been there yet?" Kennedy drummed her fingers on her desk, wondering why something about what Fiona had said a little while ago was sticking in the back of her mind. She'd figure it out. After she got some sleep, for the love of God. "Thanks for the tip, though. I'll check it out."

She paused and added, "D'you think he really believes all this stuff he talks about?"

"Love?"

She looked up to the head of the class.

"Yeah, I think he does."

And she almost sounded wistful.

Kennedy had to agree, and that was what confused her so much. Because demon, and those two concepts were not so much with the compatibility according to what she'd spent most of her life learning. "Do you?" she had to ask, with a curious look prompted by Fiona's tone. "I have no idea."

She turned to look over at Kennedy.

"I believe love can do amazing things," she said with a nod.

"...but honestly, it terrifies me."

Kennedy huffed a brief laugh. "What's so terrifying about it? Seems like a pretty good deal if you can get it."

Sensitivity: not always her forte.

There was something deadly serious in her eyes when she looked at Kennedy, something Final, something that spoke of higher powers and Things Which Had Been. Fiona Post was a goddess, whether she felt like it or not, and sometimes it showed.

"I've seen what it can do to people. I've never seen anything more terrible in my whole life."

Someday she'd be standing in a Southern California back yard in the morning sunlight, staring down the barrel of a gun, and she'd remember this. But that day was a long way off.

For now, though, Kennedy gritted her teeth against the weird chill that suddenly ran down her spine. "Maybe. But it can't be all bad, right? I mean, come on. If it was, there wouldn't be enough movies about it for us to even be here right now."

Re: TAs [L&R: Class Six]

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The moment was gone as Fiona gave a terribly teenage shrug.

"That's what 'Dite talks about."

You know, when she talked to her sort of aunt sort of not aunt it was weird all right... instead of hiding away from everyone and everything.

"The good stuff. Mr. Demon too. And there is good stuff. But the bad stuff sucks."

Re: TAs [L&R: Class Six]

[identity profile] brat-intraining.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. Guess so," Kennedy conceded, relaxing again. That had been kind of freaky.

The closest she'd come to the bad stuff was last year, with the whole stupid mess with 'Nita that she still didn't like to think about, and that hadn't been love. Just hormones.

"So it's not like I'm blowing you off or anything, but I think I'm gonna make up my own mind on the whole thing."

Re: TAs [L&R: Class Six]

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
She held her her hands.

"I don't think anyone can do anything but figure it out for themselves. It'd be like telling someone they like chocolate."

Which she didn't, emphatically, for good reason.

[identity profile] brat-intraining.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Whereas Kennedy couldn't believe anyone couldn't; for someone who was so ready to get up in people's faces for having problems with her being gay, she had some astoundingly stupid blind spots. Some (as in this case) more trivial than others.

"So it's all good, then."

Re: TAs [L&R: Class Six]

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
A quick nod.

"Either way, I can't wait for class to be over."

Re: TAs [L&R: Class Six]

[identity profile] brat-intraining.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tell me about it," Kennedy muttered in agreement. "Too freaking weird even for me."

Re: TAs [L&R: Class Six]

[identity profile] cutsthestrings.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
She tilted her head.

"Weird?"

She considered it 'annoying'.

Re: TAs [L&R: Class Six]

[identity profile] brat-intraining.livejournal.com 2010-02-10 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, yeah, it was annoying too. But because there were some things Kennedy didn't articulate out loud to just anyone...

"Yeah. Weird."
