Loki looked positively gleeful as the students came in and took their seats. It would become evident why he was looking so excited shortly but, for now, he was just grinning like a smug motherfucker.

Once everyone was settled, he stood up and said, "Today we're going to talk about some of the suckiest fucking people in the world. People who are annoying."

Now it was clear why he was gleeful.

"You all know someone annoying," he said with conviction. "You might be that annoying fucking person, in fact. Sometimes your friends will be good enough not to fucking tell you that you're annoying but, trust me, all of us are annoying at one point or another. It's just the degree and the way we're fucking annoying. Some of us might talk too much, some of us might fucking stink, some of us chew with our mouths open and spray it. I could go on and fucking on but that's not what this class is about. This is about how you would deal with people like this."

And Loki kind of really wanted to hear how some of these students would deal with annoying shitheads. He was kind of an evil person sometimes. And he predicted half of the students would use physical violence.

"So, here's today's activity," Loki said, still looking gleeful. "I want each and every one of you to stand up and give one way in which you think you can be an annoying bastard. Yes, this means owning up to some of your flaws but you're all fucking adults, for the most part, so I have confidence you can do this without falling apart. Once you do this, everyone else? It's your job to say how you'd deal with that particular trait. Be fucking creative. If someone says they talk too much, don't just offer to punch them in the mouth. Think outside the box. I'm even gonna play? Everyone understand? Okay, go."

Really. He wasn't emo or anything.

"And while the easiest answer is to force you to be happy," Loki said, tapping his chin, "I think I'd go for another option. If you found someone that was even more of a downer than you, you'd either go for the challenge of beating them or get annoyed enough to not be a downer.

Maybe. Loki wasn't that smart.

At that, Jono was forced to quirk an eyebrow upward a little, vaguely curious.

//And now I want to know if anyone could find someone more depressing than I am.//

"I've lived a long time, I've seen people just as or more depressing than you," Loki said. "You seem like you could be pretty high up there but trust me, I lived during some awful shit. People were depressing."

Jono seemed to muse on that for a moment, nodding a little. Fine then, he could accept that human history was full of some very low points.

//That just means that I'm going to have to try harder,// he decided.

It would have been very tongue-in-cheek, if only he'd had either.

"Really intent on staying in that depressing place?" Loki asked lightly. "Easiest way to deal with that is, like I said to Ellie, start a fight. Unless you were just that depressed and not one to defend yourself, you'd end up more aggressive than depressed for a bit."

And now, if Jono had a throat, he'd be clearing it pointedly while his spat with Jacob the other week came to mind.

//Vicious cycle with me, really,// he noted. //Depending on what th'fight is about, of course. Might be angry all at once, but th'moment th'fight ends, I might be down about it for weeks.//

He stank like a sulphur mine. Yes, that did still sting, thank you.

"Never had a fight just to get out some excess energy?" Loki suggested. "I used to fight with Bartleby all the fucking time just because I was bored. It helped."

//Used to. Used to go to th'pubs just to get in trouble,// Jono replied. //Th'police were well acquainted with me, back in London.//

Not so much, anymore.

"You have a way to get rid of energy?" Loki asked, curious.

//Not so much, anymore,// Jono replied. Because sometimes, life imitated narrative that way. //I found myself with too much energy, and not much in th'way of a safe outlet, anymore. Unless things attack that I'm allowed to... Pretty much obliterate.//

Come on, Jono. You're not allowed to go into a funk in the middle of a class where you were currently discussing how your funks were annoying.

"If you ever want to get rid of some of that energy, welcome to use it on me," Loki offered, showing off that awesomely polite side of his. "I can't die."

Well, unless Jono obliterated his wings but those wouldn't be coming out.

And this would be what made Loki one of the most awesome teachers on the island, right?

Jono certainly seemed to think so.

//Might even take yer up on that, sometime,// Jono decided, nodding a little. //It's more likely now than it was a few months ago, at least. Still, I might need a bit. T'warm up to the idea, some.//

"Take your time," Loki agreed, nodding. "I don't plan on going anywhere and I won't be dying in the interim. Let me know."

"I would learn to play the violin," Elena announced. "And any time I felt you were wallowing in self-pity, I would dig it out and play you a very sad song. At which point you'd probably tell me to fuck off, but anger's a step up from wallowing."

//That depends entirely on how well yer playing, and what th'song actually is,// Jono decided, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms over his chest. //Anyhow, luv, I'm not th'sort that yer want t'get on th'bad side of. I've a bit of an explosive temper, when it all comes down to it.//

A good way to not find Jono annoying? Would be to find him terrifying, instead.

"I'd take requests," Elena decided. "It's going to take a while for me to learn the violin. Maybe it'd be a chipper little tune, instead. And you can't have a worse temper than my boss."

It should be noted that Tseng was a perfectly normal, sane person who had been dealing with insubordinate employees long past the point of holding on to reason. When Reno gave you a half-naked lapdance, perhaps you were entitled to a bit of a 'temper.'

//Oh, I didn't say it was a bad temper,// Jono corrected. //I simply said it was explosive. Which isn't really all that great to begin with, granted, but... Not quite th'same.//

"Explosive how?" Elena asked. "You're calm, you're calm, you're calm, and then boom, one last nudge pushes you over the edge?"

Jono looked up at the ceiling, considering for a moment. And then he shrugged and looked back her way.

//Yer weren't far off, with that boom bit, really.//

Elena mulled over that for a few seconds.

"So when you say explosive temper, you mean poking you with a stick could come with a high mortality rate."

Not judging. Just curious.

//... Potentially.//

He wasn't really going to elaborate. At least, not here in class. Or, if he did, he would make certain that nobody else could hear.

//I like to think I've got a better handle on it, mind.//

"Was? Say it's not SO!" Kurt chuckled. "Clearly, you need to be cheered up!"

//Heaven help me.//

It was to be noted that this was not necessarily a protest. In fact, all in all, it was said rather flatly, and there was almost a hint of amusement on what was left of Jono's features.

//Dare I ask how?//

"No, because I don't know yet," Kurt told him. "And it's CLEARLY not going to be easy. But you'd better watch out, because I don't give up."
