Library [02/03]

When Sam got to the library today, he didn't waste any time before finding a book and a hiding place among the shelves. His spots were getting embarrassingly worse, and he didn't want to have to talk to anyone if he didn't have to. The fact that anyone who came in could probably follow the smell of chocolate to find him didn't make him feel very secure though.

Chuck came in around his usual time and sighed when he saw Sam wasn't at the front desk. He was always making more work for him.

"Winchester, don't make me come looking for you," Chuck called out. "I might get lost and then you'll feel really guilty when they find me dead weeks later in the non-fiction section."

"You won't get lost," Sam called out from his hiding spot, before realizing that might not help his situation. "I mean, you're right, the library's really big. You should go before you get swallowed up or something."

"Oh, well, in that case I'll just go along on my merry way then," Chuck said, rolling his eyes. He placed the food he brought on the front desk and made his way towards the stacks of books. "Or not."

"I don't need lunch today, it's okay. You can have all the food yourself," Sam said, holding a book up in front of his face like that would do any good.

"I love salad, Sam, I really do. But if I ate two of them I'd probably throw up," Chuck said. He turned a corner and found Sam. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

And why did it smell so good in here?

"You brought me salad?" Sam asked, because that was totally a great diversion. "Nothing's wrong with me, really."

"Yes, I did. Burgers every week is gross," he said. "And there's obviously something wrong with you because you've seem to have gotten a book attached to your face."

Sam lowered the book so Chuck could see some of the spots creeping up along his neck. "The island hates me again," he said. It was kind of the story of the last four years of his life.

Chuck attempted to look sympathetic to Sam's situation. "Oh, Sam. That's just...awful."

The whole straight face attempt failed when Chuck burst out laughing.

Sam glared at Chuck. "Don't think I won't throw this at you just because it's a library book," he said.

"Come on, it's kind of funny," Chuck said. "Is that chocolate smell you too?"

"Yes," Sam said, sighing deeply. "I think I was in the chocolate tank too long and...I don't even know, but it sucks."

"That's what you get for being a good student and volunteering for stuff," he said. "Are you planning to stop lurking or should I just bring your lunch to your new home?"

Sam sighed again, but he put the book back and came out from the shelves to go back to the desk. "Are you sure you want to stick around?" he asked. "Chocolate and salads don't exactly go together."

"I'll manage to survive," Chuck said. "I just won't sit that close to you."

"I guess that'll work," Sam said, since he was genuinely hungry. "Um, thanks for the food. I almost forgot that, sorry."

"Well I can see how you'd be distracted considering you're turning into a giant chocolate bar." No, he really couldn't resist teasing.

"I am not!" Sam said, getting quiet for a second. "You don't think that's what's happening, do you?"

Chuck rolled his eyes. "I was just teasing. You're not turning into a candy bar."

"You wouldn't think it was funny if you itched like crazy," Sam pointed out.

"I wouldn't have sat in a vat of hot fudge in the first place," Chuck said with a smirk. "But I'm sorry for making fun of you. You have my sympathies."

That sentiment would have probably been a bit more believable if Chuck had stopped smiling when he said it.

"You're such a liar," Sam said, rolling his eyes. "You're gonna be laughing your ass off about this for days."

"I'm going to be laughing about this for years," Chuck said. "My kids will probably hear about it."

And, knowing many of his own future kids, they'd probably make fun of Sam worse than Chuck was right now.

"Will that be when they're not terrorizing everyone else's kids?" Sam asked, remembering the potential children he'd already met.

"My kids were perfect angels, thank you." And considering that Castiel kept telling Chuck that angels were assholes, he probably wasn't even lying right now.
