Build Your Own Philosophy, Period 2, 1/25/10

The blackboard read:

Like sands of the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. - Socrates

Tyler, looking bruised and tired, sat at the front of the room ready to push play on a DVD player. "Movie week," he announced. "Will & Ned's Awesome Expedition. It has Socrates in it. It counts as a philosophy class on a Monday like this."

Yeah, he hadn't slept much.

"Once the movie's over, you can go. If you have ideas on how to get gremlin gunk out of new jeans, let me know after class and you get extra credit."

He pushed play and slumped into his seat again, keeping one eye on the screen and the other eye on the class.

Joan looked around at her teacher and classmates and felt kind of guilty that she had holed up in the dorm and managed to avoid running into the nasty creatures.

Hayley watched the film, watching it carefully.

She wasn't too keen on the music the main characters played, though. Seemed a little... noisy to her.

Yeah, Tyler was definitely not the only one who hadn't slept well. For all she'd had Alex looking out for her, having creepy monsters all over didn't exactly make for a restful weekend.

Movie class where she didn't have to do anything was welcome on a Monday morning after that. It didn't really distract from the fact her face was still sore, but... Welcome.

Raven barely paid attention to the movie, but she was glad for it, since she didn't have to engage in any class discussion.

Dinah checked that everyone was there, in one piece, and looking relatively sane - and yes, for one person in particular - and then nearly immediately zoned out, sleepy, on the movie. Loooooooooong weekend.

Marco was in a very happy place when he heard what the movie of the week was. Now all he needed was some popcorn.

Mulan was glad she didn't have to think too much today. Besides, watching movies was not something she got to do often.

Okay. So, like, Ino was exhausted, right?

But it was the bright-eyed exhaustion of someone who'd had an amazing weekend and had absolutely zero attention span.

Which would be why she was doodling and humming very quietly rather than watching the movie. Movies required more attention than scribbles of flowers and weapons and maybe some dead gremlins did, okay?

Joan was there and had no bruises or scratches.

Liir was there. Totally there. His mun, on the other hand, was collapsed like a flan in a cupboard.

But if Liir could agree with any philosophy that the class had covered so far, it might be 'Be excellent to each other.'

He did walk up at the end of class.

"Sir? Would you... like for me to give a try on that gunk you mentioned?"

Laundry comforted him. And it'd been a weekend. This was not so odd as it might sound. Besides, extra credit.

"I've cleaned worse out of cloth," he said, which was something of a non-answer, but the almost relieved way in which he said it might tip someone off to the fact that chores were where he found his zen. That was one of the odd things that'd even passed over into his undead form.

"And you did mention extra credit."

"Want a Twinkie, Genghis Khan?"

... I have an unreasonable love for this silly movie.
