Living With Difficult Women [Tuesday, Period 5]

Max had spent a large chunk of the past week rethinking precisely how he was going to run this class with all the... women in it. He hadn't really come up with a solution he liked, but it was class time now so it was apparently time to go with a solution he didn't much care for.

"Welcome back, everyone," he began as he looked around at his students. "This class is intended to be a practical one, but for us to do that we're going to have to be candid with one another. That, however, requires trust, and we don't all know one another that well." He quirked an eyebrow, wondering if anyone was going to challenge that assertion. "We're going to try to remedy that." He grinned suddenly before adding, "The trust part."

"You're going to pair up. Then each of you is going to share a deeply private secret with the other one. That way each of you will know that if you violate the trust of the other students in this class, someone else here holds a serious piece of information to punish you with. If the person you're partnered with judges your secret to be insufficiently powerful, they can demand another, so you're better off sharing one major thing than being forced to go through a dozen things that almost qualify."

Max let a hard gaze drift slowly across the room, letting it rest on each student until he felt he'd driven home how serious he was. "Understand this: by receiving these secrets you're being entrusted with something important. Violating that trust is not something I will tolerate. The only reason we're doing this is to help everyone to feel like the can be candid because they'll know that everyone has shared something here they don't want spread around."

He gestured to the ~~handwavy~~ list he had up. "I've assigned partners randomly. Find yours and get to it. I'll be stopping by to check on how each of you are doing."

"Oh, and Pendragon, Cauthon, I want to see each of you after class."

Leia awaited her partner, wondering just what secret she was going to share. Like she was really going to share something deeply personal with a stranger.

Hannibal decided that partnering with a girl would be best if he wanted his secret kept just that. Of course, he didn't know what he was going to share but maybe they could go get away with some throwaway secret.

"Hey," he said, giving her a smile. "Need a partner?"

Leia would be disappointed to find out this cute boy was taken and couldn't be used to infuriate her father.

"Yes," she said, "though I haven't the faintest idea what I'm going to tell you."

"Yeah, same here," he said, glancing at Max and making a face. "I'm not really one to just dump my secrets out to a stranger. Hannibal King, though. At least we can get names out of the way."

"Leia Organa," Leia said. "And there is nothing to stop us from just making up something ridiculous, is there? We don't know each other well enough to know if it's a true secret, and he certainly won't know, either." She gave Max an eyeroll of her own.

"Sounds like a good enough plan to me." Hannibal nodded. "My other option was just telling me some stupid secret. Mundane. Like the fact that I like slippers or something. But he'd probably hear and know that's not deep enough or something."

Leia tapped a finger against her lip, thinking. "How about this," she said. "I was once arrested for running naked through the streets of Aldera." And if that actually did somehow start to spread, she'd be pleased to imagine the look on Anakin's face when he heard it.

Hannibal raised an eyebrow and kind of almost hoped that one was true. "Arrested, huh?" he asked, playing along. "Bet that was a scandal."

"A huge one," Leia said solemnly. "I'm a princess, you see." She'd abandoned hiding that fact since there were other members of royal houses here, and no one seemed to care.

"Ooooh." Yeah, if that had been real, he could see it being a huge scandal. "That sway get you out of jail that much faster?"

"My parents were furious," Leia said, trying hard to keep a straight face. "They whisked me back to the palace as quickly as possible and tried to prevent word from getting out."

"Juicy secret," he complimented with a wide grin. "I wouldn't have minded being around for the naked streaking part, myself."

"If I were more daring, I'd have to try it here," Leia teased. "Just to drive my father insane."

"There might be an opportunity at some point," he shared, grinning. "This place isn't without their random naked days or naked mutinies."

"I'll have to keep that in mind," Leia said. Except she didn't want Jaina or Ben to be caught in the flaily crossfire. "So what's your deep dark secret?"

"Don't tell my girlfriend but I'm married," he said, giving his eyebrows a little waggle. "No one else knows."

"You cad!" Leia said in mock shock. "Then you definitely don't want that getting out, or she'll kill you, won't she?"

"She would. I think they both would," he said, wincing dramatically. "And I'd like to stay alive, if I could. I keep my lives separate at least."

"Isn't that difficult?" Leia teased. "Have you ever called your girlfriend or wife the wrong name?"

"Not yet." Man, Angela really would kill him if he did that. Kill him dead. "I've had a lot of practice and they have very different names. I rehearse their names before seeing each one of them to prevent a slip up."

"What made you decide to have a girlfriend as well as a wife?" Leia said, having fun playing along. "Are you too much for one woman?"

"That's exactly it." Oh, ego. "And I don't like being settled with just one person. There's so much out there, why chain myself to just one person, right?"

Leia leaned in. "Any thoughts on a third?" she asked. She really wanted to see if she could make him drop the act and flail.

She'd find him hard pressed to flail about anything. There were certain areas to go for if you knew him but she didn't and flirting was a talent.

"Why? You know someone's who interested?"

"Maybe," Leia said, playing with her hair. "If you can keep two women satisfied, then you must know what you're doing."
