Law and Order: Interdimensional Edition - Week One

Gibbs stood in front of the classroom surrounded by coffee makers, his fellow teachers and... Ralph.

"Welcome to class," he said after the students had taken their seats. "This semester we are combining most of the law enforcement resources here on the island to provide you with the benefit of all our years of experience. Except for Ralph. He's here to take attendance."

Right now the trooper was glaring and making faces at Gibbs behind his helmet. Gibbs really didn't care.

"By now you should be tired of introducing yourselves," Gibbs continued, "And if you think that means you get to skip it this time... you're wrong. We're all going to introduce ourselves, instructors included, and tell everyone what we hope to achieve in this class."

Gibbs then pointed at a random person. "You first."

When that was done, Gibbs took his position again at the front of the classroom. "Now that we've finished we're going on to talk about possibly the most useful and practical skill you can ever have in law enforcement. It is not only the most important tool an officer can have but it is a skill that everyone should be familiar with."

Gibbs looked into the eyes of each student to make sure they were paying attention. "Coffee. That's right. Coffee," he said handing out a set of instructions. "Please take your time to review your instructions and then follow them. I and any of my fellow instructors who are brave enough, will then sample your brew and grade it. And yes, this will be on the final exam. Next week, Professor Ziva David will cover how to be sneaky when tracking people. Let's get to work.

Ben handed him a cup of coffee like a good little fanboy. "Oh, I'm not that reckless," he said. "Milk or sugar?"

"No thanks. I take it black," Kyle said. He preferred his coffee so black that it created an incredibly dense gravity well. There were surprisingly few places that could create a black hole from coffee beans, though, so he usually had to settle. The three places in the universe that did sell coffee like that, though, called it the Katarn Special. One of the places has never even heard of Kyle Katarn. That name just came to them.

Kyle sipped the coffee. "Congratulations, you won't be haunted."
