Law and Order: Interdimensional Edition - Week One

Gibbs stood in front of the classroom surrounded by coffee makers, his fellow teachers and... Ralph.

"Welcome to class," he said after the students had taken their seats. "This semester we are combining most of the law enforcement resources here on the island to provide you with the benefit of all our years of experience. Except for Ralph. He's here to take attendance."

Right now the trooper was glaring and making faces at Gibbs behind his helmet. Gibbs really didn't care.

"By now you should be tired of introducing yourselves," Gibbs continued, "And if you think that means you get to skip it this time... you're wrong. We're all going to introduce ourselves, instructors included, and tell everyone what we hope to achieve in this class."

Gibbs then pointed at a random person. "You first."

When that was done, Gibbs took his position again at the front of the classroom. "Now that we've finished we're going on to talk about possibly the most useful and practical skill you can ever have in law enforcement. It is not only the most important tool an officer can have but it is a skill that everyone should be familiar with."

Gibbs looked into the eyes of each student to make sure they were paying attention. "Coffee. That's right. Coffee," he said handing out a set of instructions. "Please take your time to review your instructions and then follow them. I and any of my fellow instructors who are brave enough, will then sample your brew and grade it. And yes, this will be on the final exam. Next week, Professor Ziva David will cover how to be sneaky when tracking people. Let's get to work.

[OCD is up!]

Kyle was there, looking a little wary of today's activity. "If I get poisoned on my first day, I will come back as a Force ghost and haunt everyone here."

Dinah! Lance!

Dinah blinked, then looked around for her fellow TA. "...did not see that coming." Not that she wasn't pretty cheerful about it. "Thanks, Gibbs!"

Dinah was scribbling notes, energy wholly diverted to Law and Order, and feeling the best she had in a class since Monday.

Then there was coffee. Hunh... metaphor? Or Gibbs messing with them? Or a test? Or all of the above?

Oh, totally all of the above.

Roy! Harper!

Roy didn't know about law enforcement, but he'd agree 100% that coffee was necessary to superheroics. Especially if you were expected to get up and go to school the next morning.

Chung! Chung!

I mean, Jaina! Solo!

Jaina firmly believed that caf/coffee was pretty much necessary for continued life.

She likes this class.

"Dinah Lance, senior, and I hope to learn how to catch criminals," better than they did in New Gotham, "protect civilians, and keep the peace, no matter what dimension I might accidentally end up in. And how to find coffee in all of them." Javaaaaaa.

It was like instructions for a Grail Quest. Or a treasure hunt. Ooo.

Dinah started by checking her coffee machine to make sure it was spotless, peering into the insides and using that little wire scrubby thing to get some coffee gunk off one part of the filter.

"My name's Jaina Solo, I'm a senior." That felt so good to say this semester. "It looks like this is what I'm doing with my career for the time being, so I figured I should get some instruction."

Jaina knew how to pour water in a machine that had a premeasured packet of coffee in it and hit 'start.' But they had to grind the beans? Seriously?

"They sell packets of instant for this, you know," she grumbled.

Yeah, Vimes would just let the other teachers try the coffee first. He'd lived off some truly bad coffee before, but that hardly meant he was eager to see what could be worse.

Rose! Hathaway!

Re: Listen to the Lecture

Rose was strongly of the opinion that coffee could be bought just fine at the Perk. Or Starbucks. Or a gas station.

Which didn't keep her from reviewing that list of instructions, but...

"I'm Rose Hathaway, and I'm a senior," Rose said, smiling at the whole 'almost done with high school' thing. "I'm going to be a Guardian, and a lot of the cop stuff cross-applies."

Re: Make the Coffee!

[identity profile] guardianborn.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
"They sell coffee too," Rose pointed out, scowling at her coffeemaker. "Someone else makes it, always hot, what's the problem?"
