The benches in this section were a little further from the bonfire than the others. If people were sensible, they might want to keep all their clothes on over here, but Fandom, of course, has never been graced with an overabundance of sensible people.

"I guess you could say that," Clark smiled a little at the thought of Lois without her shirt. Come on, she was hot.

"At least it's not so cold, right?" Or at least, Clark was betting he'd found another person with some ability to withstand extreme temperatures.

They were both way too easy then.

"No, not too cold. It's colder where I'm from," Jacob replied, because admitting the other explanation wasn't an option. "Well, it was May there so not right now, but usually. Are you from more up North too?"

"Actually, Kansas," Clark admitted, knowing full well that his part of Kansas at least wasn't prone to too much chill. "But we get our cold spells like anyplace else. I'm Clark Kent," he said, extending a warm hand toward the taller boy.

"Jacob Black," he said, shaking Clark's hand and it still felt cool against his too hot skin. "I've never been there, so I'll take your word for it. Washington's mostly wet."

"And wow, you're hot," Clark said looking intently at Jacob's hand. Sadly that probably wasn't the gayest thing he'd say today. "Guess I'm not alone in not feeling the cold."

Jacob tried not to fidget and he touched the side of his neck, as if to test. "Really? Hadn't noticed anything, maybe I'm getting a cold." Which was a lame cover-up story, Jake.

So lame, but Clark understood the need for lame covers. "Yeah, you should probably see the clinic about that. I hear they're nice."

"I'm not going to bother them for a cold," Jacob shook his head. "It'll be fine. So have they broken your brain enough today?" he added, the shirtlessness had left him under the impression Clark was a new student just like him.

"Oh, I'm not new, though I was told I need to 'loosen up' and so now I'm shirtless," Clark replied. "What's the weirdest thing they've told you?" Clark bet he could top it.

"You want me to pick one?" Jacob asked, because there was a lot. "Okay, the girl who ran into her own daughter. That's messed up."

"Her own kid goes here? What a way to learn about your future," Clark remarked, amazed. "And I thought the day the girls turned into boys was weird."

"I heard about that one too," Jacob said. "Apparently the guys did the same things. And it only lasted one day. Right?" Yeah, he was still worried about that one.

"Yeah, and then there was the weekend when anything you never thought could possibly happen to you happened," Clark warned. "So it's good to be prepared."

Jacob considered that. "I think I already had one of those," he mused.

That sounded deep. Clark nodded, thinking he could understand. "Complicated stuff back home?"

"Something like it," Jacob agreed, not having meant to sound quite that deep. "Granted, this place is starting to feel like it too."

"Good luck with that. I've found that no matter how hard I fight to keep things uncomplicated, I just make it worse." Which is how he landed himself a one-way ticket to Fandom. "But that's me."

"No, I think I get what you mean. Sort of," he thought so anyway. As much as he could still think after the brainwashing he'd received. "And this place feels like it's got a good hang on being complicated."
