Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

The benches in this section were a little further from the bonfire than the others. If people were sensible, they might want to keep all their clothes on over here, but Fandom, of course, has never been graced with an overabundance of sensible people.

For just the briefest moment, Jacob felt embarrassed for making a show and then he remembered it was a leech. A fucking leech perving and looking for his next snack. "He's dangerous."

So was Jacob if he didn't control his temper.

"So's a cat in a room full of allergic people. So am I," she replied, batting her eyes. She was just going to reach out a touch and...

...well now. "So are you, if I'm not mistaken."

Jacob raised an eyebrow. "Only to him," he assured her, having no idea what was going on.

"Liar liar," Emma sang, leveling a finger at him. "Don't fib to Auntie Emma, darling. It's rude."

"So you tell me what I'm lying about then?" Jacob asked, getting a very weird feeling now that he couldn't quite explain.

"You aren't just dangerous to the creep," Emma answered, tilting her head at him. "To yourself, to others, so much rage under your skin. That's why you're here, isn't it?"

Jacob fell quiet under her gaze, feeling like she was looking right through him. "My dad just thought it was a good idea," he said. Did his dad really think he could turn into a monster? Sam, yes, because that was exactly how Sam saw himself any time he looked at Emily.

"What? You don't even know my name and you think you already know me?"

"I know everyone, darling," she replied. "Possibly better than they know themselves, Mr.... Black."

Emma so did love screwing with the new kids.

"You're not like Layla are you?" he asked, he almost said blonde Bella clone, but managed to refrain himself. "Whatever the hell that is."

"Layla is my minion," Emma answered. "She's an annoying little brat at times, but she's mostly harmless."

"But if you mean to ask, 'Are you a mutant, Miss Frost,' then the answer is yes. Although nothing like Layla."

"Mutant?" he asked, obviously that hadn't been his question. "You seem pretty normal to me."

Except for that thing she just did where she knew his name.

<<Do I now? Aren't you sweet?>> she replied. Silently.

Special Hell, Emma.

"Oh no, you don't!" Jacob objected. "I've-" He didn't get further, apparently telling anyone he had enough voices in his head was already too much and the words got stuck, trying his tongue. "Don't!"

"Don't what?" she asked. "Cat got your tongue?"

"Do that thing that you just did," he said, making a face at her. It wasn't the same as with the others of his pack, he couldn't hear her but she'd definitely been inside his. "I like my privacy." He had way too little of it.

"I'm just being friendly, darling," No, Emma, you were being a pain. "Besides, I can 'talk' to people without peeking at the good stuff. Don't be a spoilsport."

She didn't say she wasn't looking. Details.

"Then there's no reason for you to not just talk to me, Blondie," he told her.

If she was digging around in his head, he was calling her Blondie.

<<Sure there is. I like this better,>> she answered. <<Verbal communication is so....>>

"...imprecise, shall we say. Besides, why shouldn't I use my gifts? This is what I am, and I enjoy it."

"You're still using words," he pointed out. "You just enjoy being obnoxious, don't you?"

"If you'd rather play mental Pictonary, I could oblige, but I don't exactly see the point," Emma replied. "And I'm educational, thank you."

"I think I missed the educational part," he said. "I thought you were just trying to play another game of confuse the newbie."

And he was just cranky now because she'd read him way too easily.

"Educational. If you can't survive a few moments dealing with my scrutiny, you'll never cope with the rest of Fandom."

"I can cope with anything you throw at me," he snapped back.

Which... was a stupid thing to say.

"Oh, I don't know about that, Mr. Black," she practically purred. "You might be a little young for some of my games."

Jacob's eyebrows knitted together and he seriously hated being told he was too young. "Mr Black's my dad," he grumbled, "and I said anything."
