It had been months since Sam had been in the kind of good mood that hit him on Tuesday, and he was enjoying every moment of it. It didn't matter that he'd woken up and found little candy canes in his drawers. It didn't matter that his morning walks with Scout were getting colder every day. He was in love, and that made everything all right. He knew he'd see Dinah at the play performance tonight, but maybe, if he hoped really hard, she would have enough time to come in and see him today. That was the thought that carried him through as he got settled in for the day.

And a good thought it was! Dinah had come up with a half-dozen excuses to visit Sam today, but they all flew out of her head when she saw him. "Hiiii, Sam."

"Dinah! Hi!" Sam said, straightening up a little in his chair. "It's, uh...it's good to see you."

Dinah grinned at him, leaning over the counter, and giving her hair a little flip. "Really? You're not too busy shelving books or something to just hang out for a bit?" Yay! He was glad to see her!

"There's nothing that's that important," Sam said, coming around from behind the desk. "I've got all day to do that stuff."

"Cool!" Dinah bounced on her toes, then looped her arm through his. See that? Smooth! It was great that he was so tallll, that made this easier. "You could show me stuff. Liiike, I don't know. Special Collections? Are you allowed in there? Or, um. Your favorites?" She looked up at him sideways through her eyelashes. "You have to have one, working here."

"Oh, I wouldn't take you into Special Collections," Sam said, shaking his head and somehow managing to stay steady with Dinah right there. "It's really dangerous in there, and I don't want you to get hurt. But, um, I can show you my favorite other section if you'd like."

"I would!" Dinah bounced and leaned against him, breath speeding up as she matched his steps. "I like Poe. And Shakespeare, of course. When I get a chance to read." She gave him a grin, bumping her elbow against his, marveling again at how smart Sam was. "Dangerous? Fun-dangerous? Or bad-dangerous?" He didn't want her to get hurt! Yes! And... okay, getting into a quieter part of the Library, here. Hmmm!

"I like Poe and Shakespeare too," Sam said with a grin. Of course they liked the same things. They were obviously made for each other. "But I like mysteries more," he added, pointing as he led her into that section. "Special Collections is bad-dangerous. Dr. Jones disappeared for like a week once getting lost in there."

"I love mysteries! I'm going to be a P.I.!" Inside Voice, Dinah. Shhhhh.

It was so perfect! It was Fate! Fate! The last sign she'd been looking for! Dinah let go of Sam's arm, and took a deep breath. Oh, this was going to be scary. But she could do it! She could! "Sam? I... have something I have to confess to you."

"You do?" Sam said, looking a little worried. Maybe he'd been reading too much into this. Maybe she didn't really like him at all! "What is it?"

"I... I have these feelings? For you?" Dinah bounced on her toes, looking incredibly hopeful. "I hope it's not too pushy and I know you're still not over Peter but I know that you could love me if you just give it a chance, and please don't hate me 'cause I love you, I really really do, Sam, I know it's sudden but please, please could you maybe, possibly think you ever could...?" Gulp. Breathe. "Feel the same way?"

Sam lit up at her words, and straightened up like all his troubles floated away at once. He couldn't believe that someone as amazing as Dinah could have those sorts of feelings about him, but here she was, saying the things he'd wanted so badly to hear. "Dinah, I...I already love you," he said. "I didn't think I could ever feel this way again, but I do. I didn't want to say anything because I didn't think you felt the same way."

"Eeeeeeee!" So much for attempting Inside Voice.

Dinah threw herself at Sam, bouncing and dancing and saying, "I knew it! I felt it! I was almost sure ohmigod yay yes! Sam! This is so awesome oh I'm so happy wooooo!" And kiss him all over his face because yay! He loved her! She loved him! Was there anything more wonderful and dizzy and perfect? No! "You're so super! Super special! Yay!"

Sam laughed as he slipped his arms around Dinah to hold her close. "You're special too. And amazing, and wonderful, and I'm so, so happy." And really, the best way he could think of to show her how he felt was to get even closer and try to kiss her.

"Me too. Oh, wow, me too." Actions were Dinah's thing, not words. So kissing Sam back? Not exactly a hardship. Sam, Sam, Sam. Oh, *there's* the inside voice, sounding like a loopy groupie.

Oh yes, this was definitely better than trying to form words that made sense, as far as Sam was concerned. He was a little out of practice with the whole kissing thing, but being with Dinah made it feel right anyway, and he slipped his arms tighter around her, not wanting to let go.

"Mmmmm..." Dinah was not out of practice, but it was nice to kiss Sam, stretching up a little more than usual, and sighing against his mouth. See! Priestly was so wrong! So was Francine! So was everyone! Warm soft sweet Sam got it! True. Love! Also, really good kissing. Mmmmm!

"Mmmmm" was a pretty apt description of how Sam felt too, and he only stopped kissing her because he had to catch his breath. "Um, wow," he said quietly.

"Yeah," Dinah said, sighing, opening her eyes and smiling dreamily at him. "Amazing." She smiled up at him, and squeezed his fingers, feeling so many things at once, but on top of it all totally sure this was the best thing that had ever happened to her. Shakespeare had it right. She reached up to rub a thumb over his lips. "You've got a little lip-gloss there," she said, breath still unsteady.

"It's okay, I don't mind," Sam said, although he didn't exactly mind her touching his lips either. "I can't believe how lucky I am."

"You? Me!" Dinah laughed, and hugged him tight, then leaned up to give him a licking kiss, getting the last of the lip gloss. "We should talk, about, oh... the future and all." Weddings! "But maybe not just yet." She sighed happily, dizzy at finally knowing for sure. Sam loved her. Sam Winchester loved her. How cool was that?

"Yeah, we should," Sam said, grinning and licking his lips. It was crazy to think about, but maybe that wasn't such a bad thing! "Maybe later tonight? After the play? We could get together, just the two of us."

"I'd really, really like that," Dinah said, humming with happiness. "Meet up outside, then go somewhere private? To talk!" She hugged him. "And just be together." For more schmoop! And Dinah nuzzled his jawline.

Somewhere, Francine and Priestly were getting matching migraines.

It had been a while since Claire stopped by to visit Sam at work - something she was feeling rather guilty about. So she stopped today with coffee.

"Hey, Sam, how's it going?"

"Claire, hi," Sam said, smiling at her. "I'm...really good actually. How are you?"

That... was not really the answer she was expecting.

"I'm... okay," Claire said. "Been mostly keeping to myself."

She handed over the coffee for him. "What's going on with you?"

"Ooh, thanks," Sam said, taking the coffee gratefully. "I...I've been having a really good week."

"Oh yeah? How so?" she asked.

Sam looked a little nervous, but Claire was his friend. She'd want him to be happy, wouldn't she?

"I think I'm falling in love again," he said, smiling broadly.

"... you're what?" Claire asked, staring at him in disbelief. It had only been five weeks since Peter's death, after all.

"With Dinah," Sam said, laughing. "I know, I can't believe it either. But we've been working on the play together and...I don't know, we just connected somehow. It's hard to explain."

Claire's jaw met the floor. "You are in love with Dinah?"

She felt betrayed. Dinah was her roommate, one of the first friends she made in Fandom and one of the people who consoled her when she found out about Peter.

"And she feels the same way?"

"She does, yeah," Sam said, his smile fading a little when he caught her expression. "You don't look happy about this."

"That's because I'm not," Claire said. "Did you just forget about Peter? He's dead so he doesn't matter any more? I thought you still loved him. But five weeks and not only are you done mourning, you're in love with someone else?"

"I didn't forget about Peter," Sam said, shaking his head. "I'm just moving forward. I think Peter would want that, and that's what Dinah wants too. She makes me as happy as Peter did."

"Yes, Peter would want you to be happy," she admitted. "But, Sam, don't you think this is kind of fast? I mean, you and Peter were together for a long time."

"I wish I could explain it, but I can't. All I know is what I feel," Sam said. "I love Dinah, and she loves me. You should be happy that we're both happy."

"I can't be," Claire said, shaking her head. "It's just too soon. Peter hasn't been gone that long. It just feels... wrong."

"You just don't understand because you're not in love like we are," Sam said with a scowl. "If Jon loved you the way Dinah loves me, you'd get it."

"Do you even hear yourself?" Claire asked. "You were in love with Peter for over a year. He's barely been dead a month and now and you Dinah have some epic love? I can't do this right now. I gotta go."

Because if she didn't, she would probably end up in tears.

"Fine, go," Sam said with a sigh. "If you come to your senses and decide to be happy for me, you can come back then."

"Don't hold your breath for that," Claire snapped, turning to storm out of the library.
