Library [12/04]

Today was the sort of day that saw Jono bustling into the library almost late, finding his way to the nearest seat, and then depositing his bottom into it and swearing to himself that he wasn't going to move from that spot unless he absolutely had to, damn it.

Because, not only was he still a little on the tired, distracted side after all that had been going on this week, but if he didn't move, then he couldn't stumble across any more of those stupid holiday ornaments. Right?

... Right?

[No OCD today, sorry this is a smidgen late-ish. The bus system hates me.]

//He was on our side,// Jono replied with a little nod. //After fighting off a horde of bloody ice trolls, th'last thing we would've needed would be facin' off against a bleedin' god.//

That would not have ended well.

"Ice trolls?" Ben repeated, blinking rapidly. "Trolls who lived in ice or were made out of ice?"

[furnaceface]

//Lived in. At least, I'm pretty certain they usually lived in it. It was bloody freezing where we were at.//

Otherwise, they were just big, stupid, and fleshy. With smashy things. Of course.

Ben wrinkled up his nose. "Sounds like when Dad and Uncle Han talk about Hoth," he said. "Glad you made it back in one piece. I would've missed you."

[furnaceface]

//It would've been a bloody rotten way to go,// Jono decided. Which absolutely didn't address the fact that Ben had just said he'd miss him, no. But Jonothon never was good at being particularly sentimental. He was less so when he was tired. //How has yer week been, ornaments aside?//

Ben shrugged a shoulder. "Relatively uneventful. I'm going to see the play tonight."

//... There's a play?//

Look, Jono was relatively uninformed about such things, sometimes.

Ben unsuccessfully smothered a giggle. "My roommate's in it, yes."

[furnaceface]

This right here? This would have been a perfect moment for Jono to purse his lips thoughtfully. Alas.

//I don't know that I'd be able to appreciate it properly tonight,// he mused. //D'yer know how long th'run is going to be?//

It would get him out of his room! Which... couldn't hurt, right? Right.

"I think they're having a couple more showings," Ben said with a nod. "I'll see them all because it's fun to tease."

[furnaceface]

//Well, why else would yer go to take in live theatre?// Jono was joking, really. He was a performing artist himself, after all. Just not so much of the acting persuasion. //So then it wouldn't be too much of a bother if I happened to tag along with her, perhaps, for one of th'shows?//

"Not at all," Ben replied, smiling. "You might even be able to explain to me what's happening. I'm not exactly versed on Earth plays."

[furnaceface]

//I can probably be of some assistance in that regard, then,// Jono decided, working on a smile-of-sorts of his own in turn. //D'yer know th'title of it? If it isn't something horribly obscure, we might even be able to find a study guide for it here in th'library. Those tend t'make understandin' it a bit easier, at least.//

"Whatever they are callingMidsummer's Night Eve," Ben said. "Heard of it?"

[furnaceface]

//Of course I have,// Jono replied, nodding faintly. //It's Shakespeare, mate. One of th'most renowned playwrights t'world has ever seen.//

A pause.

//And so th'whole thing'll be in fairly archaic English. It might take a bit of work t'be able to follow it.//

"Oh, like the last one," Ben said, nodding. "Astral. I mean, slightly boring, potentially heavy on creepy ghosts and stuff, but astral."

[furnaceface]

//Less with th'creepy ghosts, more with th'fairies and the tricksters, I believe. This is one of Shakespeare's great comedies, after all.//

Which meant there were fewer swordfights, alas.
