Adventures in Literature, Wednesday, Period Three [Class Fourteen]

Drake had sent out a notice to his students that class would be in the Danger Shop again. When the students arrived, however, Drake was nowhere in sight. The Danger Shop had been transformed into a medievally gothic room all decorated in blue, with blue stained-glass windows. To the west was a door leading to the next room.

There were extravagant medieval costumes (and masks) for those who wished to wear them, but it wasn't necessary.

A parchment stuck to the entrance of the Danger Shop read: The prince had provided all the appliances of pleasure. There were buffoons, there were improvisatori, there were ballet-dancers, there were musicians, there was Beauty, there was wine. All these and security were within. Without was the "Red Death."

There were a twisty maze of passageways, all alike. Well, not quite alike. While each room held couches for lounging, drinks and snacks for nomming, and music for grooving, each one was a different color....

Blue Room [Ail: Class Fourteen]

That at the eastern extremity was hung, for example, in blue -- and vividly blue were its windows.

Chill out here to classical music. Or head westward to the Purple Room.

Francine peeked into the blue room but was not impressed with how it was hung. She made a face and moved on.

Fiona liked this room. The music was sort of soothing, and the color was her favorite, anyway.

Sam had read somewhere that blue paint made a room more calming, and he had to admit that with the classical music too, the effect was there. He ended up staying in place for a minute before moving on to the next room.

The blue room was lovely, and the music captivating. Penelope enjoyed this room but curiosity about the others, had her moving along soon enough.

Purple Room [Ail: Class Fourteen]

The second chamber was purple in its ornaments and tapestries, and here the panes were purple.

Rock music is playing here. You can go east back to the Blue Room or head west to the Green Room.

A tall masked figure in red drifted through the room. It stopped upon seeing Didi, however, and put hands on hips. "I can't play this part with you, that's just weird," came Drake's voice from behind the mask.

Green Room [Ail: Class Fourteen]

The third was green throughout, and so were the casements.

Relax to the New Agey vibes of Enya and Loreena McKennitt. You can go east back to the Purple Room or head west to the Orange Room.

Ellie had droid baby duty today which is why she took a chance bringing her to class. Luckily, she wandered into the green room. The music was soothing and baby Sarah managed to fall asleep. They were going to stay in this room for as long as possible.

Orange Room [Ail: Class Fourteen]

White Room [Ail: Class Fourteen]

Francine would be chillaxing here, thank you. Only she wouldn't be using that word because she was so white that the draperies in this room looked at her and moped around in envy.

After a lifetime of being subjected to Dean's music whether he liked it or not, this room felt pretty comforting, so Sam stayed here to, as Francine wished she could say, chillax.

Violet Room [Ail: Class Fourteen]

This room seemed like it would be entertaining. So Joolushko decided to stay a while. Possibly there might be dancing.

Black Room [Ail: Class Fourteen]

The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries that hung all over the ceiling and down the walls, falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the same material and hue. But in this chamber only, the color of the windows failed to correspond with the decorations. The panes here were scarlet -- a deep blood color.

This room is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally creepy. And ominously quiet, except for the gigantic clock of ebony. "Its pendulum swung to and fro with a dull, heavy, monotonous clang," and the click of the movement of the minute-hands was loud and disconcerting.

So here's the deal. You can do pretty much whatever you want in any of the first six rooms. Mod the food and the music, dance, lounge and chat. But if you go into the Black Room or pester Drake (he will be wandering about), you "die," which just means you're stuck in the Black Room for the duration of the class. Or you can pretend to be a zombie and go out to nibble on your friends, because it will amuse Drake. This is really just (a) a test to see if you read the story, and (b) a party to celebrate the end of the semester, except I think I totally miscounted and there's another week of classes. Ooops.

Gods, I love Poe. Keats can suck it. ;)
