Fencing Club - Danger Shop, Monday After Classes

Edmund sent word out during Monday (and there was a note on the Salle door) that the club session would be held in the Danger Shop. The room was set up like a carnival ground, complete with Ferris wheel, a mirror maze and the other standard attractions you'd find there. Sharp simulations of their swords were waiting for them when they arrived.

Edmund had his own sword at his hip. "You've been training well in a controlled setting. More often than not though, you'll have to draw your sword with little notice in the strangest of circumstances. In about thirty seconds, we're going to be attacked by clowns with swords. I did say strangest," he pointed out. "It's all a simulation, but practice as if it's life and death." Life and death with clowns, yes. "The simulation is programmed to give you an opponent matched to your abilities to ensure a fair fight." Except Zayne's opponent, who was a notch better than him. "Fifteen seconds." At ten, he drew his own sword. "Spread out."

Clowns. How very horror-film of Edmund. Emma was just going to silently face-palm, and wish that her powers worked on Danger Shop generated mimes.

Dinah scowled, then sighed. "Clowns. Harlequins. Mimes. Never a good idea." And they always needed defeating. Dinah did the little sword wrist-twirl and sighed.

Oooh, clowns. Rose was so happy the babies had been sleeping enough that she could wander on down to Fencing.

She was totally excited to take on some crazy mofos who didn't know how to wear makeup.

Azula raised both eyebrows, the clowns reminded her of the Kyoshi warriors. She smirked. She knew there was a reason she could never take the Kyoshi warriors seriously.

Zayne was a little thrown by the clowns (really?), but at least he got to use an actual lightsaber here. Err... simulation of a lightsaber.

Dinah headed toward the Ferris wheel, sword at the ready, and trying to keep an eye out for potential opponents. Those shoes had to be a drawback, right?

[clown me!]

"Wooo!" Okay, dignity. "En guarde!" Sort of.

Dinah swung her sword up to meet his, following up with a feint to his left, then a fast cut toward his shoulder as she moved.

It was a lot like what Edward had said-- once you got used to someone better than you, someone at a disadvantage or worse was unpredictable, and in some ways harder to fight. Dinah blocked the swipe, then hopped up on a bench to aim a cut at the wig, hoping he'd over-balance.

[*facepalms at mental typo* sorry!]

Dinah blinked, unwillingly impressed at that fast recovery, and hopped off the bench to take another swing at the clown, this time going low, hoping that balance thing would collapse again. "No more candy corn for you!"

Dinah sighed, then nodded, and considered, then decided no, not leaning on her sword. She might have been swinging it back and forth kind of aimlessly though, watching the clown guy. Yup.

"Whoa!" And that was Dinah going back to two-handed swordfighting there, because ha, that was one sneaky clown-faced duelist. Not able to get her sword back up in time to block, she swerved, eep'd, then ducked, and swung her sword left and high, feeling like there should be player-piano music in the background, somewhere.

"Aaaah!" The slap of the blade on her arm had Dinah wincing, skin stinging, then twirling and doing that fast thing Zayne always did. Whoooosh attempted-slice!

And another blinkity-blink from Dinah, because okay, time to start expecting that outcome, hunh?

"Uh, thanks." She saluted him with the blade, and said sheepishly, "Good match."

Azula kept herself loose, sword kept to her side.

Azula side stepped the attack, parrying the blow and following the momentum attempted to swipe the clown on his behind.

Azula pivoted around the blade and miscalculated slightly, much to her annoyance slicing a part of her shirt.

Zayne felt that he had something of an advantage here. He had a lightsaber. The clown he would be facing only had his level of competency AND a sword. And that's when he saw his clown approach. With a lightsaber.

Both Zayne and the clown turned their sabers on, the clown charging forward with a small honk every time his oversized shoes hit the pavement. Zayne settled into a defensive stance and prepared for the attack. The clown slashed high, then low, forcing Zayne to take a step back with each block. The clown seemed a little faster than Zayne expected, which really caught him by surprise.

Zayne used his relative agility (the clown was good, but Zayne didn't have to worry about big shoes or pants that were comedically oversized and held up with suspenders and what was probably a hula hoop in the waistband) to get him into a good position for a couple attacks, but for the most part, the clown's onslaught continued.

This continued, the clown gradually pushing Zayne back until he was backed up to the Test Your Strength game. The clown took one last good hack at Zayne, knocking him to the ground and sending Zayne's lightsaber into the air.

The clown approached Zayne with his lightsaber extended, offering Zayne the chance to surrender. And that's when the sound of a lightsaber slicing through metal could be heard. A second later, the bell that had been at the top of the game came crashing down on the clown's head, knocking him out.

Zayne stood up and looked up. Sure enough, it looked like the bell had been sliced off by his thrown saber. Weird how that worked out....

Algren was there.

And very, very amused. Clowns, hm?

He was going to have to give this a go himself with his actual sword, once the students cleared out.

Since it's a simulation, I'm assuming that Zayne would be using an actual (simulated) lightsaber. Also, that the clown would ALSO have a lightsaber. Is this assumption fair?
