Thanksgiving Meal, Cafeteria, Thursday

The cafeteria's dining room looked much less institutional today than one might expect. White linens had been draped on the tables, and flowers and autumn leaves were arranged in centerpieces on the tables. It was probably best not to ask where they'd found enough silver and china -- yet, somehow, there it was.

The scene in the kitchen it was another story, and the controlled chaos there was -- while mostly manageable -- definitely loud, hot, and confusing.

In other words, it was a proper Thanksgiving.

Kennedy narrowed her eyes, bit her lip, and made a show of Very Serious Consideration that dissolved into a grin. "Yeah. Yeah, I am, but less so if I end up dropping this plate."

Honey? Kennedy's eyes widened in surprise, but it was a pleased kind of surprise. "There a seat free near you?"

"The one across the table looks pretty good," Tara indicated, beaming back at Kennedy. "Would that work for you?"

"Works just fine," Kennedy assured her cheerfully. "I'd give you a proper greeting but it's a little tricky with a chance of messy at the moment."

Tara's cheeks gained the slightest hint of pink about the concept of a proper greeting. "Yeah, and we don't want to give the baby ideas, anyhow," she said. "Rain check?

"Wouldn't want to bring your grade down." Kennedy wasn't above seeing if a wink would make Tara blush a little more. "Rain check? Definitely."

The wink worked; Tara apparently forgot what her fork was for, judging by how she kept prodding it at the same lump of green beans.

"It's good," she said, "th-that you're so concerned about my ethics grade."

Kennedy dropped into the seat across from her, still looking mischievous. "Well, we can't have you learning all the wrong things about this assignment, can we?"
