Cyborg Theory Class

Welcome back to Cyborg Theory.

Last week’s class was very successful as you all tried to work out the warning signs of the true identity of a human-form robot.

Today, you have all been informed that Anakin, Kawalsky, Cally, Lee and Aeryn are human-form robots. What are your varying reactions to this news? How would you react to discover that your close friend, acquaintance, classmate and/or that person over there, omg, was not, in fact, human?

I have places for you to comment with your general reactions, if you have any, and specific reactions.

And for the faux-robots in the class, what would be your reaction to (a) discovering that people know, (b) the reactions of your loved ones to this news.

Please show me both your first knee-jerk reaction and a more thoughtful analysis.

//Also, remember that your papers on this exercise are due on Wednesday. I will get them back to you and your grade for the class so far next Monday.//

Remember that participation is mandatory in this class!!1!

Anakin had put a lot of thought into the question, and it took him a while tor reply. Finally he said, "At school? I think after the initial shock, most of the beings here would get over it. I think if they can accept gremlins and zombies and Death working in the clinic, a student who's not really human wouldn't really shock them.

"Home's a different story. If I were really a droid, it would pretty much knock tens of thousand of years of Jedi teaching on its collective ass. If teaching had an ass. I'm rambling."

He cleared his throat. "In our view, Jedi are especially attuned to the Force, which is life. In our view, droids are not really part of that life force, being not alive--they don't resonate in the Force except as circuitry. If the Chosen One of Jedi prophecy was really a droid and tuned more closely to the Force than any being in history--the Council would erupt into chaos. It wouldn't be pretty."

He looked down at the desk and fiddled with his pen. "If I were really a droid? I don't know what I'd do. Probably have some words with the manufacturer for the overabundence of emotions he seemed to have burdened me with. And the lack of sneakiness, which is probably not great for a droid." He snorted. "I wasn't very good at containing my droid nature last week.

"And Padmé Obi-Wan my loved ones? I wouldn't be expecting a great reaction from them. Droids are useful in my world, but they would not be capable of higher emotions, at least in their view. I'm not sure they'd ever be able to wrap their minds around me as being not a person, though I'm sure they'd try. Assuming my old teacher wouldn't strike me down where I stood as an obomination to the Force. Which would probably tear him apart, but he's an honorable man and a droid with Force capabilities just shouldn't exist."

Anakin stared broodily out the window. "I'm glad this was just an exercise. I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of Obi-Wan's lightsaber."

::stands up::

If I discovered that people knew, in the case of if I was a cylon humany robot thingie, well... I'd admit it. Well... maybe. I'd probably run and hide and hope no one came after me until it all died down, and people wouldn't be out to melt me down or something, cause of the outrage and shock. Cause, I'm sure there'd be bias or something. Sadly. So, yeah. I'd hide for a bit, and then try to be as friendly as possible.

I'd hope that if I actually did turn out to be a Cylon Human-Shaped Robot, that everyone would still treat me the same. Cause, it's not like I'd actually be different, you know? Just same old Cally from before. ::shrugs:: But, I'm sure, they'd think I was some evil toaster or something, and then somebody would decide to run up and shoot me before I got a chance for a trial or something to defend myself. ::sighs::

Erm, and, I guess... if people's reactions weren't favorable, I'd cry. Cause I wouldn't have really done anything wrong.

That's my answer.

Shifting from side to side he says, "If I didn't know I was a cylon robot and found out, I wouldn't accept it and would probably become very self destructive as my personal experience with robots indicates that death is the best option."

"If I did know about the whole robot thing, I would probably be the most evil creature alive and destroy galaxies....yeah."

"Well first of all I'd angst because then I'd be just like you, you fembot you. Yeah, good comeback Kawalsky. I wouldn't be too fussed. I mean, I'd be pretty pissed at first, but if I think I'm still me, then I am still me as far as I'm concerned. As for others? Well, it's a little different. They'd be upset since they know what your kind is like and wouldn't see me the same, so that'd bother me."

Aeryn thought about it for a moment. "I would have told John. If I knew that others knew... I suppose it depends on what my purpose was, actually. If I was harmless I'd be emo for a bit there wouldn't be much of a reaction to be had. I'd still be here and still be me.

"If I just found out about myself, though..." She doesn't really have an answer for that.
