Anyone Can Cook | Period 4 | 10.06

There was a large projector set up in the front of the classroom, and Colette's chef whites were spotless, as if they were armor against anything that might seem awry.
"Bonjour," she said. "Today we will conference in with some friends of mine in Paris, Alfredo Linguini and his ... and Remy."

No, she still couldn't admit Remy was a rat out loud.

"I admit Remy's form is a bit unusual, but this dish is his specialty. I would not want to make ratatouille for class without his supervision."

With that warning, she hit a projector button and came up with an image of a gangly redheaded man with a gray rat balanced on his head. "Hi, I'm Linguini," the redhead said, grinning at Colette a little nervously. The rat waved. "Ready to go, Colette?"

"Always," she said, hoping nothing would go wrong.

The rat sprang into action, jumping here, grabbing Linguini's hand to make him chop one thing or stir another, tossing a rat-sized armful of herbs into the pot. The final project came out of the oven looking something like this."

"And so," Colette said, when they were done, "Ratatouille. I do not say 'anyone can cook' lightly. You have recipes similar to Remy's. Begin."

Liir started his work on the recipe by himself, eyes focused almost harshly on the food. At first his movements were sharp, in jagged bursts, but eventually the action of cooking started to soothe him. The slices became smoother, quick and easy as the rhythm of the kitchen worked it's own magic. He'd made something like this at home when meat was in small supply and he'd had to go out and gather food for them.

Using a bit of the magic he'd learned from lady Glinda, he called a few of his herb pots to him, as well as the small jar of green salt he'd managed to pick up that was said to be from a unique source out of Gilikin.

In the end, his presentation was very nice, but the dish tasted a little different, just as a dish prepared with water from one country might taste different from water provided in another. To Liir, however, it smelled just a little bit more like home and he needed that.
