Library; Monday [ 09/21 ]

Not long after Cal had come in to open the library, clutching a mug of sugar-infused coffee, did he settled behind the desk, duck his head slightly, and note how only a little bit of hair fell forward, barely even in his eyes. It was a far cry from the cascade that would tumble down and make a little cavern, and he blew air upwards, making them fly a short distance before settling back. And then there was his nose, which he kept gingerly poking at despite how much it hurt. Maybe because it hurt. It was kind of a cool sort of pain, and feeling it made him feel bad ass or something.

Either way, between the hair and the nose, Cal wasn't very likely to get any work done today.

Hayley looked at Cal for a second, wondering how that worked.

And then she laughed.

Cal's jaw shifted a little and he threw a little glare at her, although there wasn't a whole lot of heat in it.

"So glad I could be here to provide entertainment for you," he muttered dryly.

Although he actually kind of was.

Hayley looked the teensiest bit sheepish. "Does it hurt?"

"Only a little bit," Cal lied, going to gingerly poke at the bandages again. He'd been doing it all day enough to a point where he didn't wince anymore.

"We should find Karla," Hayley said. "She fixed my lip for me. I bet you she could help your nose."

"She didn't heal it by kissing it, did she?" Cal asked.

"Nope!" Hayley said. "It was all in the fingers." If Cal was being jealous again, Hayley didn't notice.

It was part jealousy, but mostly just being a smart ass. "Then no thanks," he said with a faint smirk. "Besides, if I let anyone other than Ino heal me, I'd have more to worry about than just a broken nose."

"...why's that?" Hayley asked, confused.

There was a pause. Cal just looked at the doe-eyed girl for a moment, and realized that his first thought really was the best response.

"Have you met Ino?"

To help her out, though, he spun a finger around the side of his head, the international sign for crazycakes and, currently, a rather nice symbol of irony.

"Oh, absolutely. She's the one who told me about the squirrels lying!" Hayley said.

"Oh, that's right," Cal said. "Yeah. She's a little....touchy, if you noticed."

"But we got along fine..." Hayley said. "Once she told me how I was wrong, I mean."

"Oh, I get along with her fine, too," Cal said. "That doesn't make the fact that she's got a short fuse any less true."

"What is she, a bomb?" Hayley said, giggling. "Boom!"

"That's actually a fairly good comparison," Cal admitted with a laugh. "A ninja bomb. Who if she finds out I've got this broken nose is going to throw a fit."

"...well, just don't tell her anyone did it," Hayley said. "Unless you want to blame Batgirl."

"Why would I want to blame Batgirl?" Cal asked. "And it wouldn't matter who I blamed, it'd be me who'd be getting it."

"Oh," Hayley said, sighing. "Here I was hopin' it might make Ino want to go after her."

Cal snorted a little, regretting it because it still kind of hurt when he did that. "I think I'd have to be in a full body cast before she got to that point," he said, smiling apologetically. "Sorry."

"Oh well," Hayley said. "You want me to try and kiss it better?"

"Well," Cal said, grinning although his brain was trying to tell him to say no, but this was no time for logic, "I don't think it'll help, but we won't know if we don't try, right?"

"I don't think I'm tall enough to kiss ya on the nose, though," Hayley said. "I might have to aim lower."

Cal looked into those doe eye for a moment and thought to himself how this girl was so not a good influence on him, and yet he loved it.

"Eh," he said. "Close enough, right?"

"Well," Hayley said, innocently. "Depends on how low I aim."

"And how low were you thinking, anyway?"

"Oh, well that's entirely up to you," Hayley said.

"Well," Cal said, looking thoughtful, "I think that...maybe...right about...here..." He passed a hand over his mouth, "might do the trick."

Hayley got up on her tip toes and leaned in. She was nothing if not obedient.

And far be it from Cal not to help her out, leaning forward a little until their lips touched, caught, met in a kiss, and he closed his eyes as he pressed forward a little, mind spinning with the idea that this was the third time in the short weeks that he'd known this girl (this girl whose name he didn't even know) and he'd kissed her.

Hayley was just happy to be kissing someone so pretty and kind and dangerous. She still thought he was a rebel or a mastermind.

And, if she'd asked Cal, he'd agree that he was both a rebel and a mastermind. After all, he defied conventions across the board, more than she could probably ever fathom, and he'd even been in jail twice. In different countries, no less.

For now, though, he was just thinking about kissing the doe-eyed girl, and about how he wished he'd never learn her name because this was too perfect, and it was good to know he could return and still find someone to kiss in the library when he was supposed to be working.
