Fencing Club - Salle, After Classes Monday

Again Edmund was in early and setting up for the club. He waited for everyone to arrive before addressing them. "Using a sword rarely comes naturally. You have to put effort into it, but you also have to work at your own pace to learn the fundamentals. If you want to practice the footwork drills from last week, please move over to my left and have at it. Experienced swordsmen...women...people," he fumbled, "who wish to use the time to spar head down the back. Everyone else will be practising a few defence exercises. We'll get to the attacking part next week."

Edmund demonstrated a few defence drills. "There you have it. If you need me to run through them with you, wave me over."

"Having an interesting week?" She asked, discarding the question about school for a broader one.

"Somewhat?" she admitted with a hand through her hair.

"Nothing out of the ordinary for here. I had a good bout on Sunday, though. And my brother has been complaining about his classes."

"Your brother is also in this school?"

She shook her head with a faint smile.

"I wish. No, Eliot's at another school. We text each other a lot, though. And email."

"Text?" She asked, puzzled. Another new term for her to learn. Email she learned from Dinah, Text however was puzzling unless it was another word for written mail.

She held up a finger and walked over to her bag, where she pulled out her Blackberry.

"We both have one of these," she explained, "and I can send him quick written messages on it whenever I want."

"Really?" Azula said. "Bobby spoke to me about a cellphone device. Is this it?"

Fiona held up the Blackberry with a quick nod.

"This is one of them. I didn't have one before I came here either, but it's really helpful."

Azula studied it and marveled, "It's... so small."

She nodded.

"There are smaller ones, but this one does a lot of stuff."

"Smaller than this?" Azula's first thought was: How was it even possible?; the second one immediately after the first: Can the Fire Nation replicate the technology? "What's the advantage of this above the others?"

Fiona nodded.

"Yes. It's got a few more functions, some memory to save pictures or songs, a camera, a few other things. Most of them just send and receive calls and texts."

"There's a camera in this device too?"

She turned the phone and showed the little 'hole' with the metal rim.

"That's a camera lens. The picture isn't all that great, but it's not bad."

"Just that small pinhole?" Azula shook her head. "It boggles the mind. Is that cellphone something I can purchase here?"

"That's where I got mine," she said with a little smile.

"If you want, I can bring you down to Turtle and Canary. Zack was nice enough to help me out when I wanted one."

"I would appreciate the help," she answered. "Someone who knows would be better than someone who seeks for it blind."

"Are you free on Wednesday?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I can take you down then."

"I have class and some activities but I think we can manage Wednesday," she said.

"All right, then. Meet you at the dorms and we'll head down?"

Azula nodded, "Yes, that's an agreeable plan."
