As the students came in today, they'd find that each desk held a pile of different kinds of paper, plus some blueprints. Tyler still wasn't feeling his best, so he'd decided the way to fill the hour was to let students make projectiles.

... anything for science, man.

"Welcome," he said, once they all seemed to be in their seats. "Today, we're talking about basic aerodynamics -- paper planes. The aerodynamics behind a paper plane are about the same as those behind any glider. Let me explain." And he did, discussing the reasons paper planes flew or didn't fly, the relative importance of the tail (none), and the differences in performance between origami planes and scale models.

As he spoke, he folded a perfect glider, and marked the conclusion of his lecture by tossing it over the heads of the students to crash just past the last row of desks. (Yes. He'd worked on this a lot.) "Your job today," he said, "is to build a perfect paper plane, either using the designs I gave you or with a design of your own. Cutting, glue, and tape are fine to use; so are small weights like paper clips or bobby pins. No using telekinesis to make it fly, though if I could, I would too."

He waved a hand at them. "Go to it."

"Jennifer Walters," she said, smiling. "Junior Class Representative."

Blink. Blink. Blinkblink. Don't ask the She-Hulk for her autograph, Jono. It would be very unbecoming of you. Though Everett would probably appreciate it if you sent it to him...

//Pleasure to meet yer,// he said instead. //Have yer made paper planes before?//

"Nice to meet you too," she said. "My paper plane experience is strictly amateur."

//Well, then between the two of us, we might manage something that won't plummet to th'floor like a bleedin' rock,// Jono decided, reaching for a piece of paper.

"I always thought it was hard to get blood from a stone," Jennifer joked, reaching for her own paper.

Groan.

//I walked right into that one, I suppose,// Jono mused, giving his paper a fold in absolutely the wrong direction to do any good at all.

"Yeah," Jennifer said. "Plus I can be a bit of a brat sometimes."

//We'll not hold it against yer. It just means that yer well suited to politics,// he decided.

Yes, that had to be it.

"I don't really want to be well suited to politics," Jennifer said. "I'm going into law."

//And yer'll be very good at it,// Jono replied. And then, as an afterthought, he added, //I'm sure.//

Because he was starting to figure that messing with younger versions of people he knew or knew of by hinting at where they might end up in life was just bad karma.

He gave his paper another fold, and then squinted at it. //I 'ave to admit, luv, I've not got a blinkin' clue what I'm doing with this paper.//

"That's the hope," Jennifer said. "I've got a feeling VP Deadpool knows more than he's letting on about me."

//That'd make the both of us.// Jono looked at her, considering for a moment, and then he shrugged. //This place, right? Never a moment that it doesn't make yer second-guess what yer really know about yerself.//

He inspected the paper in his hand, which was now more-or-less airplane shaped, and then he threw it. It went about three feet before it did a spectacular loop-de-doop in the air, and then crashed down into a desk.

"Whoa, you too?" Jennifer said. "We must be from similar universes."

She watched the plane and tried not to laugh.

"Well, it did a nice stunt."

//It'd fly farther if I just wadded the naffin' thing up and threw it like a ball,// Jono pointed out. //No art to it, mind yer.//

He wasn't going to just out and say that he knew for a fact that they were. That would be too... Something. Too 'hey, yes, you've made the news before. I have a teammate who has a terrible crush on you.'

//One good way to find out, really. Have yer ever heard of the X-Men? Spiderman? Iron Man? Blokes like those?//

Jennifer shook her head. "I think I'm sort of... at the start of that stuff? I think?"

//At the start,// Jono echoed. He picked up another sheet of paper, to keep his hands busy. //Well, aren't yer in fer a treat, then, luv?//

"Am I?" Jennifer said. "If there's that many big name heroes, I have to worry what's going on that makes them all needed."

//I think the question by that point is, what isn't?// Jono gave his head a shake, and then gave his paper another fold. It wasn't cooperating. //I don't know if I ought to be giving away yer future in point form, mind. I've met people whose names I know here, whose lives have gone noticeably differently thus far. Maybe yer not from the same universe as I am. Maybe we just know of people with familiar names.//

"It's possible," Jennifer said. "I mean, it's very probably even."

She gave up trying to fold a plane properly.

"I am definitely not a paper aeronautics engineer."

//That'd make two of us,// Jono pointed out. //There really is something to be said for either followin' the patterns, or else just wadding them up into balls.//

Paper balls flew better than paper planes! That was totally science.

"I say we stick with balls," Jennifer said. "Way easier to throw."

//And they'll fly faster and farther than the messes that I keep folding,// he noted, wadding up his sheet of paper and then throwing it at the trash bin to demonstrate. //Though I suppose that's what the patterns are for.//
