Detention, Saturday

"Hey," Mitchell called, once the handwavey detention announcement had gone out and everyone had had time to gather up by the Danger Shop. "I'm Mitchell. Some of you might've met me." He grinned. "You're here because for whatever reason, the school has chosen to recognise your trespasses. That doesn't mean it has to be horrible, just unpleasant."

Another slight grin, with only a hint of apology.

"So today, we're going to be preparing for a tea party," he continued, "Although I'd like it if you'd all go light on the tea. I'm more of a coffee person."

He shouldn't be allowed free range of children.

"Just enter through there and get your finest," he said, waving at the doorway, "And I'll see you on the other end."

"Apparently I've been bad," she said, pulling a bit of a face. "Just don't remember it."

... Or maybe she did, and just didn't remember getting caught. She wasn't exactly the innocent type.

"Does anyone here know exactly why they're here?" Kate wondered, looking around at the others. "I don't remember doing anything, and Jack and Jono didn't, either."

"Think it was like random draw," Effy decided. "Not quick enough to catch us doing something wrong, so they've got to pick at random."

"And that way they might actually hit some of the ones that did something," Kate nodded. "Seems like it. I didn't really have plans, but I'm still pretty pissed off about this."

Effy couldn't say she was entirely happy about having half her weekend taken away from her, and wrinkled her nose.

"Maybe they'll leave us out of the rotation next time," she theorised. Fucking well hoped, too.

"Maybe," Kate said. "We can hope. Although I think the administrators are either really bored or just sadists, so maybe they won't."

"I'm thinking bored," Effy decided. "Don't generally put sadists at the top of school administration."
