Detention, Saturday

"Hey," Mitchell called, once the ~~handwavey~~ detention announcement had gone out and everyone had had time to gather up by the Danger Shop. "I'm Mitchell. Some of you might've met me." He grinned. "You're here because for whatever reason, the school has chosen to recognise your trespasses. That doesn't mean it has to be horrible, just unpleasant."

Another slight grin, with only a hint of apology.

"So today, we're going to be preparing for a tea party," he continued, "Although I'd like it if you'd all go light on the tea. I'm more of a coffee person."

He shouldn't be allowed free range of children.

"Just enter through there and get your finest," he said, waving at the doorway, "And I'll see you on the other end."

//There's a certain charm to truancy,// Jono mused, crossing his arms over his chest. //Stand outside the school. Just watch the teachers stumble in and out. I'd bring a camera.//

"Which could then open up the possibility of blackmailing people," Kate smirked. Not that she'd ever do that, of course.

Unless maybe almost certainly in danger of failing a class.

//And if that's the case, then perhaps it wouldn't do any harm at all to put the squirrels out of work,// Jono agreed.

He could absolutely get on board with this train of logic, yes!

Kate laughed. "No, it definitely is starting to sound like squirrel unemployment could be beneficial for us."

//Now I suppose the question is what it would take to convince Layla of the same.//

That would be the challenge, there. Right?

"I think she could be bribed with s'mores," Kate mused.

//Better get to it now, then. S'more season is on its way out.// And it would be a very sad thing if it up and left entirely, without giving them the opportunity to properly bribe Layla.

"People keep giving me reasons to sneak back to the cabins," Kate said. "I'm starting to think I should. There's no s'mores like the ones made at the campfires, after all."

To his credit, Jono hadn't managed to jump into his own little pity-party yet through this conversation. It was entirely possible that he'd more or less keep up the trend.

//I never was much of a camper, luv. I suppose I'll have to take yer word for that one.//

More or less.

"I have to admit I'm speaking mostly from hearsay," Kate grinned. "I missed most of the s'mores this summer. The cabins were nice, though."

She tilted her head a little to the side. "Where are you from?"

//London, born and raised,// Jonothon replied, shrugging faintly. //More recently? Massachusetts. Isn't quite the same.//

By a long shot.

"Yeah, I can imagine," Kate said. "I'm from Kansas, both originally and recently."

//And how is that for yer, then?// Jono tilted his head a little, curious. //I've never been.//

"Boring, mostly," Kate smirked. "My family lives in the suburbs in Overland Park. Not much happens."

Except inside her own home, but that was beside the point.

//People might try to tell yer the same about Massachusetts,// Jono noted. //Don't believe them.//

Weird, weird things happened in Massachusetts. Really.

"Your Massachusetts might not be the same one we have where I'm from," Kate pointed out. "Although I think it can't be nowhere near as boring as Kansas."

//I've devised a way to be able to tell if my anything is the same as someone else's,// Jono noted. //If the way Deadpool dresses is something that might still be peculiar, but happens often enough? There's a good chance we share a Massachusetts.//

That made Kate laugh. "No, we definitely don't share a Massachusetts. According to my world's standards, Deadpool's fashion sense is way more than peculiar."

//It's ruddy insane,// Jono noted, with a bit of a chuckle as well. //But it isn't unheard of. Function over fashion, all of that rot.//

It made sense to Jono, at least.

"I'm sure it could still be functional while looking less weird," Kate noted.

//Oh, I don't know about that. Skintight means there's less a chance you'll snag it on something. The mask is good if yer don't want people knowin' who yer are underneath.//

A pause.

//The bright colours, mind yer, I could do without.//

"A change of colors would make it look less weird," Kate agreed. "Or at least it would make the weird less obvious."

//Although I suppose after a while it'd get confusing, if everyone happened to be wearing the same mute tones,// Jono mused. //There'd be villains and heroes and everything in between, all mistaking one another for some other bloke in tight leather.//

... Actually, that would be kind of fun to watch.

"Maybe then all the fighting would stop because they would all be too confused?" An unlikely but funny thought.

//Or they'd all just blow one another up,// Jono pointed out. Which, to him at least, seemed more likely.

Stupid. But more likely.
