Detention, Saturday

[chosehumanity]

"Hey," Mitchell called, once the handwavey detention announcement had gone out and everyone had had time to gather up by the Danger Shop. "I'm Mitchell. Some of you might've met me." He grinned. "You're here because for whatever reason, the school has chosen to recognise your trespasses. That doesn't mean it has to be horrible, just unpleasant."

Another slight grin, with only a hint of apology.

"So today, we're going to be preparing for a tea party," he continued, "Although I'd like it if you'd all go light on the tea. I'm more of a coffee person."

He shouldn't be allowed free range of children.

"Just enter through there and get your finest," he said, waving at the doorway, "And I'll see you on the other end."

Kate shared Jono's dilemma. At least one third of the music she listened to was 80s goth music. And she didn't really like tea.

"I've heard better," Gilbert said, shrugging, "But you make do with what crap life gives you."

Kate shrugged too. "Then why don't you turn that off and go look for something better? There's a record store not far from here."

"I'm stuck in here, serving my sentence," Gilbert said, waving that one off. "Just like the rest of you. You should've just flipped him the bird and nicked off."

"And get detention again? No thanks," Kate replied, getting distracted from her target for the moment. "I wasn't even supposed to be here today."

"That's the central unfairness of bourgeois authority," Gilbert argued, "You're never supposed to be there." That made sense. Really.

"Yeah, sure," Kate agreed, not really understanding nor caring what he was actually saying. Back on track. "Can I change the music?"

"Sure," Gilbert said, giving that one all the emotion of a rock. An idle rock. "There's some Joy Division if you search right. I think he hid it."

"Oooh," Kate said, perking up and going to the cupboard with the music selection. "Any chance of Siouxsie and the Banshees?"

"Coldplay?" Appalled didn't even begin to cover the tone of her voice. She did find the offending piece of music, though, and searched through the records next to it.

"What hell is he thinking with that one?" Kate wondered aloud.

She eventually totally modded finding found some Joy Division. "Ah hah! Found it." She took the album and went over to the cd player.

"CD isn't nearly as good as vinyl," the oracle spoketh, "Put it on."

"You'd get along with my brother really well." Only not really. Marshall would have thought Gilbert was insufferable.

She went to change the CD. But of course, before she could do that, she had to turn off the music that was playing, so she did. And then didn't change the record.
