Detention, Saturday

"Hey," Mitchell called, once the handwavey detention announcement had gone out and everyone had had time to gather up by the Danger Shop. "I'm Mitchell. Some of you might've met me." He grinned. "You're here because for whatever reason, the school has chosen to recognise your trespasses. That doesn't mean it has to be horrible, just unpleasant."

Another slight grin, with only a hint of apology.

"So today, we're going to be preparing for a tea party," he continued, "Although I'd like it if you'd all go light on the tea. I'm more of a coffee person."

He shouldn't be allowed free range of children.

"Just enter through there and get your finest," he said, waving at the doorway, "And I'll see you on the other end."

"I don't think he'd like me talking about it," Jack said, in a low voice. "I give you a fiver and you forget I was here?"

"Is there some kind of party I didn't know about?" Seth demanded to know. "And a fiver? They pay me better than that!"

No, they didn't.

"It might not be quite your ... sort of party," Jack improvised. "I'm sorry. If you don't need the money, I can hold onto it and let you let me through."

Seth pulled a face. "Well, that doesn't sound very interesting, does it? Who came up with that?"

"Everything's always Mitchell's party," Seth whined said, and eyed him speculatively. "You'll let me know if there's any stories or anything?"

Idly, he wondered whether he'd get his money back after detention ended.

Jack was pleased to be hurried, even if it meant he was slightly poorer. "Thank you."
