Detention, Saturday

[chosehumanity]

"Hey," Mitchell called, once the handwavey detention announcement had gone out and everyone had had time to gather up by the Danger Shop. "I'm Mitchell. Some of you might've met me." He grinned. "You're here because for whatever reason, the school has chosen to recognise your trespasses. That doesn't mean it has to be horrible, just unpleasant."

Another slight grin, with only a hint of apology.

"So today, we're going to be preparing for a tea party," he continued, "Although I'd like it if you'd all go light on the tea. I'm more of a coffee person."

He shouldn't be allowed free range of children.

"Just enter through there and get your finest," he said, waving at the doorway, "And I'll see you on the other end."

There was a faintly Victorian and decidedly goth-y air to the outfit Kate picked out. If she was going to have to endure undeserved detention, she might as well look good doing it.

Jack smiled a little at the clothes. Put Kate's hair up unless it already was, and change a few minor details, and she'd pass for someone from home. "I like your pick, Kate."

"Thanks, you don't look too bad yourself," Kate replied, smiling. "I thought I could try to make the most of it, seeing as I'm here without having actually done anything wrong."

"What, you either?" Jack asked. "I wondered if I'd done something and forgotten it." Or, more likely, assumed he wasn't caught.

"Uh huh," Kate nodded. "No idea what I'm supposedly in for. I'm starting to lose faith in this school's administrative people."

"They must be terribly bored," Jack mused. "Perhaps Mitchell earns a bonus if he works on a Saturday."

"Or he just likes randomly tormenting us," Kate said with a light grin. "Or both."

"Or he's lonely and he needs the company?" Jack tried, also smiling. "In which case we should be flattered."

"He coulda just asked us to come see him in his office," Kate noted. "Without hijacking us for the Saturday."

"True," Jack had to agree. "Did you have other plans? I didn't, really."

"Not really," Kate admitted after a pause. "I sort of thought about going to the arcade, and there should still be time for that after this is over."

"I still haven't been," Jack said. "They have games there, don't they?"

"Yes," Kate nodded. "All different kinds. It's an awesome arcade. Probably my favourite place in town, too."

"Then I'll have to go sometime," Jack said. "It's the time travel thing. I can use computers, but I'm not quite used to them just yet."
