Multicultural Fair! [The Gym - After Classes]

The benefit of doing something like this for the second time meant that Joan and Turtle had a much easier time of setting things up since they knew what worked and what didn't.

Turtle had, once again, provided decorations from Turtle & Canary. There was the requisite refreshment table, though it was primarily there to provide beverages, since most of the booths featured culturally appropriate food.

After set up was complete, Joan and Turtle sat down to catch up while they waited for the fair to begin.

[wait for the ocd or Turtle will kick you in the shin OCD up! No shins were harmed in the making of this post!]

"I'm from the planet of Arrakis," Leto corrected. "Space itself is rather inhospitable." Some would argue that so was Arrakis, but clearly they were just not used to the way of the Fremen. "But my family is descended from King Agamemnon of Mycenae."

Details, details.

"That's....going back quite a ways," Cal said, but then he looked like he wished to amend that comment. "But, I mean, we always have been kind of obsessed with lineage. You get that, when your culture seems to have a general paranoia of patricide and matricide, I guess."

"And being from the future, I will avoid killing any of my ancestors from this time," Leto replied jokingly.

Yes, he thought that was funny.

Cal supposed that was a nice thing about not being able to procreate. He didn't have to worry about killing any of his future offspring.

This was, of course, ignoring that a future offspring still showed up, despite it being biologically impossible.

Besides, he already had double patricide on his checklist. The only other male in his family left was his brother, and he was doing a fine job ruining himself, really.

"Or so you can hope, anyway," Cal said, after that nice bit of expositionary internal monologue.

Well, biologically impossible future offspring wasn't something that only happened to Cal.

"Time travel does have its risks," Leto replied. "So yes, I am being cautious."

"Does that mean I should consider myself relatively safe?" Cal wondered. "I mean, if we're both Greek, then we kind of share a lineage and so killing me now could have adverse effects for you later."

Not that he figured Leto would try to kill him; it was just nice to know you had a certain level of security.

"Well, you have a point there," Leto replied playfully. "Please don't challenge me to a duel."

"Hey," Cal held up his hands in defense. "I know we come with a fatalistic tendency, but I thankfully seemed to inherit more of a sense of self-preservation than some of my predecessors."

Or just a lot more luck.

"I'm glad to hear that," Leto replied. "I hope you manage to stay alive."

"And may you pass unharmed by your potential ancestors as well, Leto," Cal offered, with a respectful ducking of his head.

Leto laughed. "Thank you. I will see you later, Cal."
