Multicultural Fair! [The Gym - After Classes]

The benefit of doing something like this for the second time meant that Joan and Turtle had a much easier time of setting things up since they knew what worked and what didn't.

Turtle had, once again, provided decorations from Turtle & Canary. There was the requisite refreshment table, though it was primarily there to provide beverages, since most of the booths featured culturally appropriate food.

After set up was complete, Joan and Turtle sat down to catch up while they waited for the fair to begin.

[wait for the ocd or Turtle will kick you in the shin OCD up! No shins were harmed in the making of this post!]

Hoshi decorated her booth with photographs of Mt. Fuji (http://postcardexchange.net/wp-content/uploads/shin-kansen.jpg), Buddhist temples (http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/places/images/photos/photo_lg_japan.jpg), and geisha girls (http://www.phototravels.net/kyoto/geisha-n/geisha-kyoto-n-001.2.jpg). But she'd put more work into the food, of course. There was miso soup, kappa maki (http://japanesefood.about.com/od/sushiroll/r/cucumberroll.htm), vegetable tempura, and mochi (http://japanesefood.about.com/od/mochi/a/aboutmochi.htm).

She was waiting for more of a crowd before started her demonstration of writing in kanji, but there were two padded sumo suits if people wanted to try sumo wrestling.

"Hey Hoshi," Alex smiled, making her way over to the table. "Wow, this all looks great."

[Makes me want to go back to Japan!]

"Thanks!" said Hoshi. "I went the traditional route, leaving out some of the stuff from modern Japan in my time period."

"You can never go wrong with the traditional," Alex replied, smiling lightly.

"Especially since there's so much blending of cultures in my time period that it's hard to tell sometimes what is really Japanese anymore," said Hoshi. "For instance, guess what my mom's favorite food is? It's Kobe beef enchiladas."

Leda, dismayingly enough, had never had japanese food before. She needed to remedy this. "Hey what do you recommend here?"

"I'd recommend that you start out with the miso soup and work your way up to the tempura and sushi," advised Hoshi.

"Sounds good. Is it much different in Japan than here?"

"Yes, since it's a fairly isolated country on a chain of islands. I'm sure the Japan of the past is really different, though the Japan from my time period has more ties to the rest of the world," explained Hoshi.

"What time are you from?" Hoshi doesn't know Elvish does she.

"I'm from about 140 years in the future. It seems like a lot at times, but I've met many people in Fandom who are from even later than that," said Hoshi. "And that's not even mentioning the people from the past."

"Too transcendent." Leda breathed. "What's the world like then?"
