Gabrielle still didn't know what Geoffrey had meant about needing to learn to breathe, and she wasn't letting it get in the way of her lingering euphoric high from the play audition. As for that speech she'd heard on the TV in the common room last night? It wasn't as if she ever needed encouragement to read or study more, but she was taking it to heart anyway.

There was a stack of books beside her at the front desk, and it seemed she hadn't gotten off the self-help books kick she'd been on last week: the spines of the volumes she'd gathered today had titles such as The Seven Dumbest Amorous Conquest Mistakes Smart Gods Make, Your Truest Self: Embracing the Dryad You Are Meant To Be, and Infidelity Reflections: Confessions of a Matriarchal Deity.

And if there was a book or two about vampires from the young adult literature section mixed in there, well, she was still paranoid that Professor Démon had been right, and that whole phenomenon was her fault. She had to check, okay?

Except for third period, when she was in class, Gabrielle was behind the desk, quite possibly attempting to read three books at once.
