Fencing Club - Salle, After Classes

Edmund arrived earlier than necessary to make sure the practice swords were out and the area was clear for use. He waited for everyone to arrive and noted silently that this definitely wasn't the kind of club roster he'd been expecting. Still, they wanted to learn, so he would do his best.

"Welcome to Fencing Club. I believe I know most of you now. My name is Edmund Pevensie. The school has seen fit to have Professor Algren supervise us. There are a few ground rules as we'll be dealing with objects that can kill you if you use them improperly. Treat every weapon seriously, even if it's a wooden practice sword, and treat your opponent with respect.

This week will be informal. Please go around the room and introduce yourself and tell everyone what, if any, experience with fencing or swordwork you have. It's okay if you don't have any. We'll work on that."

Name and experience please! Hassling Edmund about what they're going to be doing or what they want to learn is also welcome.

"I am Lion-o," he said, "and while I've fought with a sword from time to time, the Sword of Omens tends to do a lot of the fighting for me. I'm hoping to gain some new skills that don't depend on having a magical sword available."

"If you're used to the movements that come with fighting with a sword, you'll find it easy enough to pick up standard moves with practice."

"My name's Ellie," she said, looking around at everyone. "I don't have much experience at all, so total beginner here. But I guess everyone has to start somewhere."

"No promises on you being a swashbuckler by the end of the year," Edmund replied lightly, "but we'll get a start on it."

"Even if I'm just a little more knowledgeable about this at the end of the year, I will consider that a success," Ellie added.

"Frost, darlings, Emma Frost," she drawled with a smirk. "I took fencing class at my last school, but I'm afraid I've been rather delinquent in keeping up with my skills." For, oh, the last year or so.

"Would you consider yourself skilled enough to hold your own in a controlled match or still in the learning stages?"

Emma's chin went up slightly. "I can hold my own in a controlled match."

She'd cheat like a telepathic-cheating-thing, until her body remembered what it was doing. Then she'd cheat a little less.

Edmund mentally sorted Emma into the intermediate category. Being a gentleman, he even managed to keep his eyes on her face. It kinda helped that he was internally flailing about having to lead mostly girls. "Then your footwork is stable, if slightly out of practice?"

"Azula, Princess of the Fire Nation," she said, beginning with her standard introduction. "I'm versed in the Dao and the Jian swords but I'm far more proficient in hand-to-hand combat. Also, I'm here because I was promised a lesson on Arming swords."

"All in due time," he promised.

"I'll keep you to that, Edmund," Azula returned with a smirk.

"Dinah Lance, and I've been studying swordwork with Arthur for going on eight months now, and eskrima sticks and staff for two years," Dinah said, adding, "I just started learning shield work. And I'd love to learn as many weapons as possible."

"What swords has he had you working with?"

Dinah held up her practice blade (http://www.weaponmasters.com/shopping/Two-Handed-Wooden-Sword-p-16375.html), and said, "This one, mostly, although I can use it one-handed instead of just two-handed now. None of the sabers or foils." She bit her lip, and added, "I'd like to learn to use a katana, too, if anyone knows anything about those. But maybe changing styles is a bad idea?" She had no idea if that would be considered risky or not.

"If you're learning from Arthur, it's best to ask him."

"I'm Zayne Carrick and I've had training with a lightsaber and have taken a few sword classes here in Fandom," Zayne said. "My skill level isn't really as high as I hoped it would be with all of that, but I'm working on it."

"You'll have plenty of sparring partners now," he said. "What's the weight like on a lightsaber? I've never held one. It looks, forgive the pun, light."

"The hilt is pretty heavy, but you don't really feel the blade at all," Zayne said. "That's why you really need training before trying to do too much with one. It's pretty easy to slice your own arm off if you're not used to it."

Edmund nodded. "We can probably modify a training sword or two so it's balanced more like a lightsaber."

"I'm Liz Sherman," Liz said, "I don't really have any experience when it comes to swords though,"

"Do you have any fighting experience?"

"I don't have a lot of fighting experience," Liz admitted, "I know some basics but that's about it,"

"That's fine," he assured her. "It's easier to learn from nothing than it is to try to adapt another fighting style."
