The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon

Today was the day of the club fair! Wasn't it just so exciting?!

Jean was totally excited.

So excited, in fact, that she showed up early to find it just as everything was being set up like the little overachiever she was. Maybe she'd be able to swing voters here!

Oh look! The club schedule! This was going to be so great, right everyone?!

Jack waved to her slightly. His conversation with Leto on Saturday reminded him it had been some time since he spoke to the girl.

"Fiona! Where have you been keeping yourself?"

Fiona made her way over to him, tucking back a curl as she did. She always seemed to want to look proper when she was talking to Jack.

"Tucked up on Griff's shoulder for a lot of it," she said with a wry smile, "since I got turned into a kitten. Otherwise, in my room. You?"

"Nothing as cute as being curled up on someone's shoulder," and Jack was taking a second to thank all the gods for that. "Classes, mostly, and the play. I traveled a bit last month -- New York with Emma and Vancouver to see Tony."

"That's right!" she remembered, thinking back to last night. It'd almost seemed like it's own world, the playhouse and the show.

"You were very good. I mean, I knew it was you, but I didn't think of it as you. Because you were your part."

...yeah, not so good with expressing things sometimes.

Jack beamed; awkward phrasing or not, he thought he understood what she meant. "That's high praise, Fiona. Thank you. It's easy to disappear if you know who you're trying to be."

... he should know, okay?

She shook her head.

"I'm too stubborn. I don't think it'd work. But you did very well."

"It doesn't have anything to do with stubborn," Jack said, trying to work out what she meant. "Oh. You can't imagine being any way besides how you are?"

"I don't bend enough," she said with a nod, "so it'd just be me speaking the lines."

"You could find a character who was you, perhaps," Jack said. He thought a few of the actors had more or less done that, after all.

"But I don't know how much I bent," he added. "Stiffened, maybe. Marshall's not terribly hard for me to understand."

She laughed at that.

"Yeah, that's another thing I'm not good at," she said with a smile that was even mostly genuine.

"So... what're you thinking of joining? Club-wise?"

"Not too many, actually," Jack admitted. "I could do swords or guns but I don't know if I want something so structured. I'll sign up for the business group, at least. What about you?"

"Swords," she said immediately, "but no guns. My Uncle Aaron would be really upset if I tried to use guns. I didn't know you were interested in business, though."

He wasn't. He was interested in having allies in good places, if he ended up in a different world after graduation. People who would sign up for something called Young Entrepreneurs seemed likely to be useful later in life.

He liked to have backup plans beyond his backup plans.

"One does want to have varied groups on one's college application," Jack said airily, and never mind that he wasn't going to college. "Why are swords okay but guns not? Use them right, and someone could end up just as dead."

"I don't know," she said honestly.

"I just know that my Uncle Aaron was very firm on the point. He's never steered me wrong before."

Jack thought it sounded arbitrary. He also thought arguing with Fiona on the point would be silly. Maybe guns weren't as useful a skill to have in her world.

"Well. Let me know how the sword one is if you do join up."

It seemed a little arbitrary to her as well, but ~~canon hasn't explained it~~ while Uncle Aaron hadn't said why, she felt she was suitably armed as she was.

"I will. And the entrepreneur's club. Will you tell me how that is?"

"Of course, Fiona," Jack said, with a tiny bow of his head. "And it was good to catch up with you."

"It was. And--" she wondered if this was rude, "but we should practice Spanish."

Yes, it was a nonsequitor. But she kept forgetting to ask him about it. "I don't remember where I heard it but someone said you speak other languages too and it's always good to practice."

"Spanish is one of your languages?" Jack said, more interested, then switched to Greek. //Leto said he thought Greek was too.//

"It is." And that came with a genuine grin, in Greek.

"It was kind of my hobby." She said it in Spanish to make the point.

"It's kind of lame as hobbies go, but it was helpful."

"They're always helpful," Jack said, and smiled before switching back to Spanish. //I would be happy to practice with you anytime.//

"You should join Griff and I. And Leto."

...wait.

"Maybe not at the same time."

//I don't know, Fiona, all four of us might get up to all kinds of trouble.//

Sometimes it was too easy to be a little shocking. Jack loved those times.

"We'll have to study on our own, since the school doesn't seem to want to teach us."

She glanced around the fair.

"Perhaps next semester, we should have a language club or something. Can you do that?"

She couldn't think what they'd do, after all. The whole idea of 'clubs' was a bit odd to her.

"I'm sure we could. We'd just need an advisor."
