The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon

Today was the day of the club fair! Wasn't it just so exciting?!

Jean was totally excited.

So excited, in fact, that she showed up early to find it just as everything was being set up like the little overachiever she was. Maybe she'd be able to swing voters here!

Oh look! The club schedule! This was going to be so great, right everyone?!

[[Please wait for the OCD is up, go to town!]]

Edmund didn't have a flashy display with him. He did look quite welcoming though if anyone had any questions. Well, welcoming for Edmund.

"Fencing?" Azula asked, "What sort of swords?"

"Whatever you're comfortable with," Edmund replied. "Depending on who joins, I suspect we'll learn from each other's different weapons of choice and styles."

"I'm familiar but not as proficient with a Jian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jian) and a Dao (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dao_(sword)) sword. One is a straight sword and the other is a saber." Azula said, then added, "I'm also quite versed with knives."

"I don't know if we'll be using knives, but we could if there's enough interest. I'm going to wait and see who joins and what their proficiency level is like before deciding on specific activities."

"Sounds practical," she said then shrugged, "I'm still looking around for clubs as well. Is there anything, besides sword practice I can look forward to if I join?"

"I'll be asking members to showcase their techniques," Edmund explained. "There'll be a chance to learn styles that may not have developed in your world. Other than that, merely the pleasure of my company." He gave a slight bow. "Forgive my rudeness, I didn't ask your name."

"Azula, Princess of the Fire Nation," Azula returned, she clasped her hands behind her back and a smile touched her lips. "In short other than swords, you hope to keep everyone's attention from wandering through your charm?"

Fiona made her way over, terribly glad that Arthur wasn't there.

"Is it open to those who only have a little training or just people who know what they're doing?"

"Beginners and near-beginners are more than welcome," Edmund replied.

That made her grin.

"Then where do I sign up?"

He stepped aside to allow her access to the table with the sign-up sheet. "It's all yours. We'll be meeting on Monday afternoons in the Salle."

Afternoons. That was--

"Perfect. Thank you," she said as she signed her name on the sheet.

"I look forward to seeing you on Monday."

Emma paused by the fencing table, intrigued but still hesitant. Fencing lessons at her old school were one thing, and she hadn't picked up a foil in over a year.

Still, it would be good exercise, and look good on college applications.

"I hope you don't mind working with a beginner," she said cheerfully. "I haven't picked up a fencing foil in a long time."

"Not at all. We'll no doubt have someone who doesn't even know the point of the blade from the hilt as well. Are you interested in fencing with heavier weapons?"
icecoldfrost: (Emma is all business)

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fencing Club

[personal profile] icecoldfrost 2009-09-05 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"If I can lift it without hitting myself," Emma replied wryly. "How heavy do they get?"

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fencing Club

[identity profile] once-a-traitor.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
"I won't introduce anything too heavy for safety reasons as most of our roster seems to be ladies with little training, but sabres and one-handed longswords or arming swords may be introduced later in the semester. Something more useful in a practical situation."

Ellie was a bit apprehensive as she approached the fencing table. She had absolutely no skills with swords at all, but, being in a town like this, she was curious.

"Hey Edmund," Ellie greeted. "Can anyone sign up for this? Or just people with experience? Because I would be a total beginner at this."

"Ellie," he greeted, pleased to see her. "All skill levels are welcome. Anyone can learn how to use a sword." Of course, he was sure Peter would be having heart palpitations back in Narnia over being so blasé about having ladies learn to fight with a sword. Good thing Edmund wasn't Peter.

[identity profile] awesomebigsis.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Really?" Ellie replied with a slight grin. "I have no skill level at all, but I feel like this is something I could learn."

[identity profile] once-a-traitor.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"We can start from which end to point at your opponent and go from there," he replied dryly.

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fencing Club

[identity profile] awesomebigsis.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooh, something about swords I actually might know," Ellie said, clearly amused.

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fencing Club

[identity profile] once-a-traitor.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Then you're off to a good start already," he said lightly. "If you strengthen your wrists and get the footwork down early, you'll have no problem picking up the rest."

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fencing Club

[identity profile] awesomebigsis.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Good to know since I am going to sign up," Ellie said, already reaching for a pen.
