The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon

Today was the day of the club fair! Wasn't it just so exciting?!

Jean was totally excited.

So excited, in fact, that she showed up early to find it just as everything was being set up like the little overachiever she was. Maybe she'd be able to swing voters here!

Oh look! The club schedule! This was going to be so great, right everyone?!

[[Please wait for the OCD is up, go to town!]]

"I'm familiar but not as proficient with a Jian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jian) and a Dao (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dao_(sword)) sword. One is a straight sword and the other is a saber." Azula said, then added, "I'm also quite versed with knives."

"I don't know if we'll be using knives, but we could if there's enough interest. I'm going to wait and see who joins and what their proficiency level is like before deciding on specific activities."

"Sounds practical," she said then shrugged, "I'm still looking around for clubs as well. Is there anything, besides sword practice I can look forward to if I join?"

"I'll be asking members to showcase their techniques," Edmund explained. "There'll be a chance to learn styles that may not have developed in your world. Other than that, merely the pleasure of my company." He gave a slight bow. "Forgive my rudeness, I didn't ask your name."

"Azula, Princess of the Fire Nation," Azula returned, she clasped her hands behind her back and a smile touched her lips. "In short other than swords, you hope to keep everyone's attention from wandering through your charm?"

"M'lady," he bowed again, then introduced himself. "King Edmund of Narnia. While I'm sure my charm would certainly be entertaining, I also plan on emphasising footwork, suggestions on outside training ideal for a swordsman...or woman," he added after a moment, "and practical applications later in the semester. As there is already a Swordwork class, I'm hoping to avoid repeating anything from there."

A king. Azula's gold eyes sparked with interest. It would probably work to her advantage if she were able to ally herself with him.

"Your majesty," Azula said, placing her right fist just below her left palm and bowed her head. "The practical application is something that interests me. My primarily fighting style is hand-to-hand and Firebending, the sword work I've almost completely neglected since I consider Firebending more versatile but since I've mastered that ability I thought this could be the time to focus on my sword work."

"I'm unfamiliar with Firebending," Edmund admitted. "Your Royal Highness would of course be most welcome. I've found my time in Fandom useful for training I wouldn't otherwise always have time for."

"I'm also choosing to think of my time in Fandom as a way to train, I've just come from a war," mental asylum, actually but those were inconsequential details. "And my brother, the current ruler of the land sent me here."

Azula wondered how many times she had to explain what Firebending was, much as she liked to talk about it. It was getting tiring. She opted for a demonstration. She opened her hand and a small blue flame appeared on her palm. "This is Firebending and, no, it's not magic."

"I see," he replied. "Control, or bending, of fire. An apt name Balancing both fire and sword at once would make for an interesting style."

"I thought it would be," Azula said. "Do you have members who own a lightsaber? I met one the other night and it left me very intrigued."

It also left Azula with a germ of an idea.

"The Fencing Club hasn't been run since the school year before last, so I'm not sure who our members will be yet. There's a chance someone with lightsaber experience will join."

Azula nodded, accepting this.

"What swords do you prefer using, my lord?"

"Please, call me Edmund. The longsword is my blade of choice, though I am partial to Arming swords. Long and flat with two edges," he explained.

"I don't think I've ever encountered an Arming sword before," she said, thinking on it. "I've fought an opponent with a katana but not an Arming sword."

"From the names you've mentioned so far, I think perhaps it's due to cultural differences. In this world, your swords were developed in the East Asian region, whereas my swords were developed in Europe, quite far away from each other. I would be happy to show you some drills with the Arming sword."

"If," Azula said, reminding him, "I choose to join your fencing club."

"Even if not," Edmund replied.

"That's generous of you," Azula said. He seemed sincere about it too. There were still other clubs to consider but the Fencing Club was currently on the top list. "Our talk was most illuminating. I still have to look around but our discussion helped." She bowed her head, "King Edmund."

Edmund returned the bow. "Princess Azula."
