Driver's Ed [Thursday, Week 1, Period 2]

As the students trickled into the Danger Shop, they would find Ziva standing and waiting for them at the front of the room, cradling a cup of coffee in her hands. Today, the room was set up like a regular classroom, and Ziva felt a lot more comfortable than she had the first time she'd gone through this speech.

"Good morning," she said. "My name is Ziva David, and over the course of this semester, I will be instructing you all in driver education. Since it is customary to tell you a few things about myself, I will say that Israel is my home, but for the last few years, I have been living in the United States while working for the NCIS. Some of you might have met my previous boss, Special Agent Gibbs. If you have not, all you need to know is that if you decide to pass notes while you should be paying attention, I will catch you."

"I do not intend for us to spend our time here memorizing traffic laws or reading from books," she continued. "I am a firm believer that the best way to learn how to drive is to actually do it, and that it is more important to know how to handle your vehicle in any given situation than it is to know all of the different rules of the road. We will be meeting here each week for your lessons, as this is the place for safe simulations. This week, before we do anything else, I need to learn the point from where you all are starting. I would like to go around and learn everyone's name, year of school, and how much experience you have behind the wheel. Oh, and if you have a dream car?" she added, grinning. "Tell me about it. Also, I do not yet have a teaching assistant, so if you would like to offer your services, please speak to me after class."

"Now," she said, pointing to a random student. "Let us start with you."

"I am Hurley, son of Carmen." He thought he was being funny. "I'm also a senior and I haven't driven either. My dream car is 1970 Chevy Camaro."

"Welcome back, Arthur," Ziva said. "Now that we have the extra time, I do plan on having a class about motorcycles. It seems to be the most popular request."

"I'm Gabrielle, from Poteidaia, in the Very Special Greece," she offered. "I'm a sophomore -- that's still a funny word -- and I never did pay much attention to chariots . . . my experience is pretty limited to getting thrown out of them."

Ziva's eyes got a little wide at that. She was getting used to having students from strange places, but there were still new stories that threw her every once in a while. "Driving is a much better experience than that, I assure you," she said. As long as crashing wasn't involved, but there was no need to add that now.

"I'm Alex Russo and I'm a junior," she stated. "I have yet to drive a car," Alex added. Magic flying carpets didn't count in this case. "My dream car would have to be a Dodge Charger."

"That is a very sensible choice of car," Ziva said. "Have you chosen not to drive, or have you been unable to?"

"Calvin, I'm a junior, I have some experience with vehicles." Toboggans, sleds, and wagons totally counted as vehicles. "You know that story about the guy who attached a VTOL jet to his car? That'd totally be my dream car. Only with better steering."

Now would probably be a very good time for Ziva to start worrying about Calvin's driving skills.

"Omigod, hi!" Kelly almost bounced. "I'm Kelly Kapoor, and I'm, like, a sophomore, and like, okay, so my sister had this doll whose car was like, super-hot. It was pink, and like, a convertible, and like, I would kill for like a pink convertible. How cute would that be? Like, completely cute."

2) Like in the summer workshop, crashing accidentally will not get you detention. Crashing on purpose very well might. Ziva is easy to set off, so if you're dying to get into trouble, let me know. :)
3) I don't have any TAs picked, so if you want the job, ping into Ziva's thread and I'll pick from whoever talks to her.
4) I'm starting my temporary-but-oh-how-I-want-it-to-turn-permanent teaching job today, so I won't be around to answer pings until about 5pm Eastern. *clings!*
