As the students found their way to the classroom in which Care for Magical Creatures would be meeting on non Danger Shoppe days, they might have found the large man in the armour holding a hamster to be a little bit twitchy.

You see, Minsc really, really, really wanted to demolish something for this class. It was just such a great way to start a class. And it was perfect for rangering, because rangers could demolish things; it was all part of the job description.

However, this was the new school year, and Care for Magical Creatures was a Srs Bsnz class. And demolishing things had little to do with faeries. At this moment. Minsc was working on it.

He did, however, make sure to push back all those stupid desks and put lots of comfortable pillows and the like down for everyone to sit on and be comfortable. Desks were too conforming! Pillows were comfortable and fun! He made a sweeping gesture toward them, raising his booming voice, "Good afternooooon, and welcome! To Care for Magical Creatures! You are all here today because you want to learn about magical creatures! Or you are here by mistake! But if it is the latter, I hope you decide to still stay because magical creatures are awesome! Just ask Boo!"

He held out the hamster. "This is Boo! He is a giant miniature space hamster! And I am Minsc! I am a ranger from the land of Rashemen of Faerûn! I have a big interest in magical creatures, especially caring for them and how to care for ourselves around them, as many of them are very dangerous! This semester is faeries and faerie kind! Do not start to scoff! The fae are some of the most tricksy and dangerous kinds of magic out there and you must not be caught unawares, or, hoo boy, you will regret it! They can make curses that'll make your life annoying, a living hell, or worse!"

"Now, one very important thing to remember is that we are here in a place of many worlds; faeries as I know them and will be teaching them might not necessarily be like the faeries you are used to! But if this is the case, I would love for it to be mentioned! That way, we can learn about even more varieties, and be better prepared for eventual encounter!"

"Today is light! Today I want introductions! Who are you, where are you from, and what is your interest in faeries? Have you any interesting faery stories? Next week shall be more academic, but it's the first week so we are so taking it easy! I will have a syllabus for you eventually. I'm going to finish it this week. Writing? IS HARD."

"Oh! And another thing! The fae folk have many holidays and to celebrate their culture, we will be celebrating some of their holidays as we come across them! There are no faery holidays in late August, but the last one was August 13, Take a Vole to Tea Day! This is following, of course, Ignore the Vole day and Spank the Vole day, which is why you have to take them to tea."

He put a foot up on the large box next to him. "Here are your voles! You are to ignore them, then spank them, and then, sometimes during the week, take them out to tea. But introductions first! Boo and I will be keeping our eyes out for TAs this semester, too, so look sharp, and we might just pick you!"

Go around the room and say who you are, what are your interests in faeries, and have you any experience with faeries?

Zack was practically bouncing by the time introductions rolled around, yes.

"I'm Zack Fair, from Gongaga on planet Gaia, and I really don't have any experience with fairies, but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry, right? You never know when that kind of thing might jump up!"

"Exactly!" said Minsc, brightly. "Better safe than sorry is an excellent theory! Especially around here, am I right? Welcome to the class, Sir Zack, and I hope you learn a lot and find yourself better prepared in your knowledge!"

"I am Lion-o, Lord of the Thundercats. I originally came from the planet Thundera, but recently the Thundercats have relocated to a new planet very much like this one," he said. "I haven't had many encounters with faeries, actually, though my Snarf has told me stories about them."

"Holy crap!" said Minsc. "You're a big cat! A Thundercat!"

Pause.

"THAT IS AWESOME."

"Uh, thanks," said Lion-o. "Actually, we're all big cats where I come from, except for the snarfs."

"That is awesome, too!" said Minsc. "And what are these snarfs?"

...Minsc was distracted when there were cool new creatures to talk about. He just couldn't help it! Plus, Sir Lion-O looked like a great strong warrior! He liked that.

"Snarfs are... well, they're snarfs," said Lion-o, struggling to describe them. "They're furry, with really long powerful tails, and they walk on all fours, except when they walk upright on two legs. I guess it's pretty useful. Snarf packs a really strong punch when he's not hiding from trouble."

Minsc chuckled a little. "He certainly does sound interesting! You should introduce us sometime, Sir Lion-O! I should like to meet a snarf! But, in the meantime, how would you like to be a TA?"

...segues, Minsc quite often decided, were for pansies. Besides, it was very clear that the best choice for a TA for Magical Creatures class would be a magical (or something like it) creature himself!

"I would be very honored to be a TA," said Lion-o, feeling very humble. "And I'll try to introduce you to Snarf."

"EXCELLENT!" Minsc boomed triumphantly. "We have a deal! Bring him by my office, maybe, one of these days ~~assuming the mun ever has time to post crap~~ ."

I'm Gwynn Hood, from Briton. I have no experience with fairies, but thought that if anyone could teach me about them, it would be Sir Minsc."

Nope, she's not kissing up -- she doesn't know what that means. She really does think he's the best teacher and ranger evar.

And how could Minsc not puff up his already expansive chest with pride at a statement like that?

"Damn straight!" he said, beaming as he agreed. "I shall not let you down in your faery education, Lady Gwynn!"

"I'm Maron Kusakabe," she said brightly, "and I'm from Tokyo, Japan--I don't have, any real experience with fairies, I guess? But they sounded super neat?"

"They are super neat!" Minsc assured her with booming joviality, even though he wasn't sure he knew what super neat meant. "And very fascinating and important to learn about! So I hope you will enjoy learning about them, Lady Maron!"

"I am Morgana, and I come from Camelot," she said. "I have heard stories of faeries, but I have no experience with them." That she knew of, at least.

"Lady Morgana!" Minsc greeted her brightly. "Welcome to the class! May it help the stories go from tales to experience!"

There was a pause there, though slight.

"...but only the good ones, of course. Goes both ways with faeries, really."

"I'm Eric van der Woodsen," he began, "and while I've had experience with fairies, they haven't quite been the kind that we're discussing in this class. So, I guess I've just heard stories?" Eric grinned at that. "But I'm sure I'll learn a lot!"

"Well there are many different kinds of faeries," Minsc said, nodding thoughtfully in agreement. "But tell us, Sir Eric, what are the ones you've experienced like?"

"Oh, I just mean," Eric said, a slight blush tinging his cheeks. "It's a slang term for a certain kind of guy, in my world," he explained. "That's all. So no actual fairies."

"Oh."

Minsc seemed momentarily confused. Which was not rare, but...

"What kind of guy, then? And how does it pertain to actual faeries?"

Eric considered trying to evade this, but decided, in the end, that he might as well just explain it. "It's used to talk about gay men," he said. "I'm not entirely sure how it came about, though."

"Hmmmmmmmm." Minsc looked thoughtful for a moment, and then he shrugged.

"Well," he said, "faeries are known to be exceedingly happy and gay, so perhaps that is it. Sometimes annoyingly so, but what can you do? Faeries, and all."

"Faeries!" Eric agreed. Well, he was pretty sure he was agreeing, anyway, and not to anything dangerous or anything like that. "What can you do?"
