Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Yup. There was still food. And tables. Nothing new about any of that, sadly. But maybe there would be shirtlessness? One can always hope, ya know. Dream big.

Harper had gone with a relatively simple sundress today, if you were willing to overlook the loud geometric pattern. She nibbled on a cookie and wondering why she'd never used chocolate chips as a fashion accessory.

"So how's the eye problem going?" Diana, still about as subtle as a hit to the head.

"It was a problem for a little while, but I haven't noticed anything since," said Harper. "Then again, I haven't worked on a lot of new pieces lately. Finishing up the play costumes kept me busy, and Geoffrey likes such boring colors."

Diana snorted. "I didn't realize colors had personality."

"Oh, colors totally have personalities of their own," said Harper. "Like red is exciting, blue is calm, yellow is cheerful…"

She may have been inviting trouble with her comparisons.

Diana stifled the groan. "So you're a yellow then?"

"I'd say I'm something of a tangerine," said Harper. "A little bit of that sunny yellow with some energetic orange thrown in."

"Tangerine. Of course." Diana said dryly and began to look around for a cup of water. "So what would I be?"

~~While her mun laughed,~~ Harper thought about it for a moment. "I'm not really sure," she finally admitted.

Diana really needed that water now. "I'm just that unique."

"But it's good to be unique. You stand out so much more that way," said Harper, looking at Diana with a critical eye. "And now that I think about it, you would look really good in lavendar. Do you have anything in that color already?"

Diana had to turn a laugh into a cough. "Uh...no." Samuel was trying very hard not to hack up a lung.

"Or maybe something else in the purple color family?" suggested Harper, somewhat distracted by Samuel. "Is your cat okay?"

Eric kind of liked it. And it made Harper very noticeable. "Hi there."

"Hi! Are you one of the new students? Welcome to Fandom!" said Harper with genuine enthusiasm.

"Eric Matthews, at your service," Eric replied. "I take it you're not new?"

"Nice to meet you, Eric. I'm Harper Finkle, and I've been here since January," she explained. "This school is the best! Everyone is so friendly. You're going to love it."

"Seems like a great place," Eric agreed. "Apparently I landed on the most awesome floor in the dorm too."

"Oooh, which floor is that?" asked Harper.

"Third floor," Eric said. "This girl, Kate, gave me candy and said it was the best."

Harper nodded. "The third floor is pretty cool. My best friend lives there, but I'm up on the fourth floor. We seem to have a pretty good group there, too. You're always welcome to join us."

"I will definitely keep that offer in mind, Harper," Eric promised.

"Where did you go to school before Fandom?" asked Harper.

"John Adams High in Philadelphia," Eric said. "How about you?"

"Tribeca Prep in New York City. It was a nice school, but it had a big clique of mean girls and wasn't so much fun after my best friend's parents sent her here," said Harper. "I really had to beg my parents to let me transfer to Fandom."
