BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Rather than fly from Philadelphia to Baltimore, Eric's parents had given him a lift. They had offered to drive him directly to the school, but he told them he would rather meet the group at the airport and take the shuttle. That way he'd get an early glimpse at all the hot girls he was sure would be going to his new school.

So now he was relaxing in the lounge, drinking a soda and waiting. It wasn't going to college, but it would do.

"Holy crap!" Cal said, with a laugh and exaggerated (and intentionally poorly acted) surprise. "Someone I actually know. Unless you just look like someone I know. In which case, I probably sound like an idiot now."

"But I'd be getting a good intro to Fandom Weird," Tony grinned. "Hey, Cal. How was your summer? I like the hair."

Cal snorted, but, of course, had to give a slight toss of his recently long locks. "Thanks," he said. "I call it the I'm Too Lazy to Get it Cut...cut. It was good. Very...broadening. How about yours? And it's weird, all these newbies? I feel like a king among a sea of peasants, or...something."

"Also broadening," Tony said. "Some of these peasants might be royalty. Although none of them have any idea what they're in for."

"We should make sure to take a nice, good, long look now," Cal said. "It's like looking on a blank canvas, so pure, so unblemished, just waiting for the splashes of insanity called paint."

"Can you believe we were once that young and naïve?" Tony asked.

Cal's short laugh was a little rueful. To go back to young and naive, he'd have to go back way, way before Fandom... But he grinned, shaking his head.

"Ages ago. Lightyears, even. It's like leading lambs to the slaughter."

"We could warn them," Tony said. He shook his head sadly. "But they'd never believe us."

"And then what will we do once they start actually be exposed to things? Takes all the fun out of later, Tony. Gotta think of the big picture."

Tony nodded. "Only thing to do is let them go in blindly. Besides, how will we identify the newbies if they don't have that shell-shocked look?" He thought for a second. "Other than being people we haven't seen before."

"Yeah, but we've been away all summer," Cal pointed out with a laugh. "Or at least part of it. There's older newbies in there we haven't even seen yet!"

"I almost forgot," Tony admitted. "That'll be weird."

Cal nodded. "There's all these people there right now that we don't know," he mused. "And who don't know us. But at least there's people there who do, you know?"

Tony nodded. He did know. "It's good to be coming back," he said.

Cal grinned broadly at that. "Yeah, it is," he agreed. "It really, really is."
