BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Rather than fly from Philadelphia to Baltimore, Eric's parents had given him a lift. They had offered to drive him directly to the school, but he told them he would rather meet the group at the airport and take the shuttle. That way he'd get an early glimpse at all the hot girls he was sure would be going to his new school.

So now he was relaxing in the lounge, drinking a soda and waiting. It wasn't going to college, but it would do.

"Jaime Reyes," Jaime answered, sticking his hand out. "Same, apparently."

Eric shook his hand. "Hi-me? That's an unusual name."

Jaime snorted in easy amusement. "Not where I'm from," he countered. "Where do you live that you don't have any Jaimes?"

"Philadelphia," Eric said. "Where are you from?"

"That's your problem. Too New England."

"I'm from El Paso," Jaime grinned.

"Is that in Spain?" Eric asked.

Geography was not his strong suit.

Jaime stared for a minute, then burst out laughing.

"Texas," he managed when he stopped to breathe. "It's in Texas."

"Oh, okay," Eric said. "That's cool."

Jaime couldn't help himself. "Not really. It's the desert, after all."

GET IT?

No, in fact, Eric did not.

"Not a fan of the desert then?"

That made Jaime blink. "Um... no. The desert is hot. Not cool..."

Get it now? (Please say yes.)

"Ooh," Eric said. "Yeah, I don't like the heat either."

Jaime let out a silent sigh of relief. "It's not so bad once you get used to it. And it's nice when it's not too cold in the winter."

Eric shrugged. "I'm pretty used to snow. We get a lot in Pennsylvania."

"I don't have any idea what that's like," Jaime shook his head. "Never snows in El Paso."

"You'll probably get to find out," Eric said. "Maryland gets snow."

"Oh, man... Brenda and Paco will be sooo jealous."

"Who are they?" he asked.

"My best friends from back home," Jaime smiled happily.

"So they've never seen snow either."

"I highly doubt it. Except on TV."
